Before it is repeated again, no I don't think temporary accommodation before being removed from the country is social welfare. Regardless of the issue at hand these folks are still human beings and deserve to be treated as such. It's in no way comparable to being paid Universal Credit or getting a council flat, those benefits aren't available to these folks due to the fact that they aren't legally entitled to it.
Do you really believe these folks are coming here after weeks or months of travelling just to get a bed and substandard food for a few weeks/months with minimal (if at all) prospect of remaining here (likely after paying criminals an exorbitant sum for the pleasure)? Perhaps they've been lied to and think otherwise, but it's a frankly ridiculous motivation for us to treat these people with less respect than we currently treat our worst citizens.

Not with the way they were being funneled through Europe without any documentation. The UK would have to ship them back to France.

How they going to be doing that on National Minimum Wage then, they won't be paying anything hardly in tax or NI so when they need / want to access services they'll actually be draining from society rather than adding to it. That's if they're even employable, some won't even be able to speak or write English. Furthermore they entered the country illegally and most likely also aided by the French watching on and not policing these people passing out of their own country. They also would have passed through many countries to get here many of which aren't at war and thus if their asylum application was for genuine reasons should fail as they purposefully passed up the opportunity to seek safe haven in one of the countries they've already passed through.

Our free from EU rule parliament could introduce new legislation to deport them though and intervene at time they're crossing the channel and return them to France.
We could do what Australia do with those. Stick them on an island until they come clean or authorities figure out who they are. A few turn out to be criminals on the run, so shouldn't just be let loose in public.

DNA ancestry testing would cost £50 and show exactly where they came from, The UK only has to ask for a DNA sample from any country we give aid too, So thats all of Africa basically. You do not take them back you get no aid and we house them on a cruise ship until they get fed up enough to voluntarily leave.
