Things we got for Christmas

You guys joke, but seriously it's burning a hole in my pocket.

The temptation to spend all of it is unreal..I've never had this much money before

I have a bucket load of cash fella but don't volunteer this info on a public forum. Money does not make a person but the fact you make out your loaded makes me think you are trying to emulate someone you are not. Sorry.

Time for me to be an ungrateful tard..
Mother got me a massive heavy wheeled suitcase because I'm going away next week..

I asked for a rucksack.

Don't get me wrong, it's an awesomely well made bit of Samsonite kit, probably cost a fair bit and would be great for your typical "package holiday" type trip where you just rock up to the hotel and forget about it.
But for me getting it on something like a light aircraft, transfering it to a water taxi and then onto a dive boat... TOTALLY the wrong kit, not to mention the sheer weight of the thing means I can't carry as much dive gear.

Oh and because my phone camera broke the other month (and I sold my Canon 4D last year) she quizzed me if I wanted a point and shoot one until I get another SLR.
So I specced one with decent manual functions, quick to focus and a decent optical zoom. Gave her the model number..

Shop assistant persuaded her that's not what she wanted and sold her a different one which had none of the things I wanted it to include. Doesn't even have bulb mode.. and I am going to Photograph the Aurora Borealis at night. :(

Sigh...

So there you go, I am also an ungrateful **** :p

Take them back to the shops and exchange them or get a refund?

Save/Invest it. You will regret spending it on rubbish. If you want to enjoy some of it maybe spend a grand then bank the rest. Just get it out of your current account.

My parents ended up spending more than usual on me this year as they went to barcelona and then andorra shopping just before christmas..resulting in a lot of spending.

I ended up with the following
-Various ck smellies/shower stuff etc
-A box of henri lloyd socks from my uncle, the price tag of £39.99 was still on it..Unsure if that's what they cost, though I wouldn't put it past him to spend an hour or so 'accidentally' leaving price tags from other products in boxes of others..
-A lovely maroon ben sherman harrington jacket (barcelona)
-HD 228 sennheiser headphones
-One of those RC helicopters you see people playing around with in gadget shops, it's so much fun!
-The usual chocolate/underwear selection
-A few DVDs
-Box of Ferrero Rochers
-A single Bic biro pen sat inside a massive wrapped box from my best friend, the kind you can get a pack of 10 for £0.75 or so - I got him a selection of single beers - something he'd been complaining about prior to christmas (Why would anyone want a selection of 5 different brand beers?!)
-£180 cash

And the best; £10,000 from my grandfather who sold his £400000 house just before christmas to move into a 1 bedroom apartment. He gave each of the grandchildren (Three including me) £10000, and my mother and auntie got £25000 each.

My parents have of course suggested I put this aside for university or whatever, i'm undecided.. My bank balance of £10,600ish is killing me! I'm only 17, it's hard to excersise control over something like this! I have no bills to pay, etc as i live at home.

Well that's my christmas story..

This year was pretty good:

Magic: The Gathering assorted items (Commander deck, singles, deck protectors etc),
PC version of Skyrim (my wife is regretting this now!),
Giant Mr. Men mug for work,
Chocolate (lots of),
2 X Dragon Bones dice set,
Various other bits and pieces.

I admit it, I'm a bit of a geek!

Just randomly spending £1k on "something cool" would be pretty stupid. If he was REALLY into photography, he might want to buy some gear he'd use all the time, for example... but many people wouldn't actually want/need anything for £1k, at 17.
A Macbook? A DSLR? A car? An awesome holiday?

Why would it be stupid when it would quell the urge to spend it and treat yourself to something cool, provide you with something useful and productive, and result in you saving the majority of the money while being satisifed?

He's hardly making out that he's loaded. Just saying he's come across 10k that he's not used to having.
