Link To Advert Video

Seen this on TV and now seen a link on some other forums. Quite shocking really, made my mum look quite shocked :p (I ride a 125cc bike).

(Don't know how long link will last, it's what I got from another forum..)

A very good advert imo, thinking whilst driving is always a good idea.

Watch other drivers when your out and about, its scary to see how many simply don't bother to look at all !

Think Bike indeed.

I had an accident almost identical to that video although I was lucky enough to be thrown over the car. The view from the bikers eyes of the car pulling out and him flying straight at it triggered some nasty flashbacks for me. Jesus christ I won't be sleeping tonight :(

I wonder how many other bikers are getting flashbacks after watching that.

They are right though. The number of people that pull out on me when I was out on my bike is quite shocking.

They need to be more observant but as a biker, you should have spotted them at the junction and moved over to the right of centre, just in case ;)

More awareness for car drivers is good but more vigilance all round is of course much better :)

i always try to watch for bikes because my dad used to ride tons. i wonder if someone will do an advert for ickle cars too though, had a number of people pull out on me lately so i often leave my lights on now :o

TBH I've never understood why bikers tend to drive to the left of a road. Surely driving in the center of the road would help solve accidents like this.

Excellent advert though.

Not all bikers stick to the left. A good biker won't stick to one side of the road all the time. It depends on the road surface, any corners ahead, parked cars ahead etc...

The last time I saw a biker in the centre of a main road, he nearly clipped my truck,or, did I nearly clip him? Either way, I reckon they keep left for reasons like that I've described....*

*I'm not a biker, so hav'nt really got a clue! :o

I tend to keep to the middle (by middle I mean the middle of the left lane, not the middle of the whole road) when driving but I do make sure to look what the driver of a car waiting to pull out is doing at any junctions so that if I need to stop then I will be ready for it. I don't really tend to need to think about it too much anymore.. I just naturally look and expect them to possibly pull out.

Left of centre is such because you are supposed to keep left (by the highway code) and you arent riding in the stripe of crap and oil in the middle of the road. Right of centre is better than riding right in the middle!

Had a mate die in a very similar accident shown in the video so I always try my best to remember to look out for bikes now.
Rather chilling advert when I think of it from that perspective :/

As a biker I've had that scary moment a few times - it's not nice at all. However, I always always slow down and get ready for emergency battle stations when I come to a junction and I see a car edging out. There's this theory that "motion camouflage" can actually render you invisible or hard to see to a driver when you're coming towards them. I tend to do very gentle s-turns to try and break this motion camouflage and basically make my headlamp move a little to try and make sure the driver has seen me. I only commit when I make eye contact or when I'm sure I've been seen.

If the opposite carriageway is free I'll cross the dotted line to make sure that he's not being blinded by his a-pillar. I do everything I can to make sure I give myself every chance of being seen. I just don't buy the "I didn't see you" excuse, and if my legs aren't broken, or I'm not dead, you'll be in for a hiding of a lifetime.

I always see drivers on the road who never have any idea a motorbike is close, or around, the way they turn at junctions, and just the way they drive in general.
I'd like to think I'm always on the more aware side for motorbikes and drive to suit where they're around.

Another thing that is interesting to see is that quite often, you can spot a biker in a car a mile off! The awareness of bikes they have is usually pretty obvious!

On the journey from work in Warwick there are loads of large signs on roundabouts, junctions etc that say 'THINK BIKE!', it sure reminds you to make sure the path is clear before you go.

That advert genuinely scares me, I've had a few near misses on a bike and I don't think I've ever been as scared in my life - knowing that you could have died/been very seriously injured in the space of a second or two really gives you a huge adrenaline shock. If anything likes this happens to me I find I have to pull over to calm down, it always gets my heart pounding. It's a shame I've had so many near misses, I always make sure I can be seen yet people still pull out in front of me without any consideration. I just pray adverts like these do make car drivers think...

In the defence of driver, motorbikes turn up in some godforsaken areas, especially on motorways, a mate of mine knocked over a biker (not too badly)on a motorway once when i was in the car.

Basically he was stuck in traffic in the middle lane and a lorry to his left was doin its best to muscle in to get out of the perma stationary left-lane. He got so close to my mates car that it was only his reaction to pull forward and right that stopped the trailer crushing into his bonnet.

Now on a normal day this would be merely a reason to hate truck drivers. However this particular time a motorcyclist had pulled along the right side and stopped. He got pretty banged up.

The point is he shouldnt have been there, he should have been queing like everyone else and i have no sympathy for him in the same way i have no sympathy for drivers forced off the road when traffic dodging on the hard sholder. I watch out for bikes all the time, but i dont know if id have seen the one my mate hit either.

i nearly narked up a biker today coming out of work car park? why does he have to swish round my outside when im turning in to to through a tight exit with laod sof traffic and speed bumpgs right in front of me?
i turned out to turn back in and nearly decked him against the security hut tbh....

a lot of car drivers just sit in their bubble paying little attention to whats going on, unless it's bigger than them they dont take any notice. Most drivers pull upto junctions getting ready to pull out they take a very quick look and go, I pull upto a junction getting ready to stop.

I've had meny people almost pull out on me but I expect it now and always take actions before it even happens, It's the only way to ride.

I know bikers aint angels, I'll filter past people in traffic on the inside or outside but a lot of the accidents are still down to poor awareness from the driver.
