Hi guys

Have a tough choice to make, I am thinking of breaking up with my long term girlfriend. We will be going for 2 years next friday and I am thinking of breaking up with her,

I am thinking of breaking up with her due to my financial situation. I never have any money to bring her out or treat her. I dont even think I will be able to bring her out for dinner next week. I have an IVA in place and owe money to my parents and all. And at the moment mum gets my pay in and pays all my bills and then gives me £40-50 a week to live on..This is due to me gambling all my money a few months ago as I was chasing the dream of winning money. LOL that doesnt work...

I think my girlfriend deserves better, She is a lovely girl and would do anything for me but she is from a well off family and she deserves someone that can bring her out for treats and stuff. i cant expect her to wait around for me to sort out my fiances as they wouldnt be sorted for at least 5years.

Its been getting worse recently with me having no money to go out and enjoy ourselves. The money that I do get ends up going to my mates who I owe money to. For example I got £50 last night and owe £40 off that to a mate for lending me it to get the girlfriend a present for our 2 years.

I cant keep doing this to her. Being skint and her having to suffer as well as she very rarley goes out without me even though she can afford to. We dont live together or anything like that so I think she should be out enjoying herself when she is young ( We are both 23)

No idea why I am writing this. Suppose I am just looking to rant. Anyone have any views? Am I doing the right thing?

I think you should sit down and talk to her, instead of asking for our views. You never know, she may be fine with it and will support you throughout.

I will say this, it's surely her choice as to if she wants to be with you or not? She may be perfectly happy being with you despite the money problems, if she loves you I can't see her just upping and moving because you are having a cash flow problem.
I would go the route of explaining the situation and seeing what she says before you break up with her.

Have you talked to her about it?

Honestly I wouldn't care if my man was flat broke - and certainly I wouldn't (and don't!) expect to get taken out and treated all the time!

Assuming there's love there, then you'll be worth a lot more to her than a few nice meals or presents. Does she have any idea you're scraping the barrel?

I can see where you're coming from but I can't see how breaking up with her will help.

If she was that worried about you not taking her out then surely she would've said something by now or broke up with you.

Sit down with her and talk about it your lack of money and being upset that you can't treat her to things once every so often.

No idea why I am writing this.

Nor do i, talk to her about it. If its a serious relationship she will stay with you regardless of how much you spend on her and if you feel insecure about it, talkign to her and explaining your worries is the best thing you can do. Whatever you do don't just keep this to yourself and let it fester in your own brain, thats the worst thing you can do.

(a close second would be asking for advise on the internet)

I sincerely doubt she is with you for your money (or lack of in this case). The best thing you can do is to talk to her about how you're feeling, without mentioning splitting up, and how you see that affecting your relationship.

I'm a web developer and on a reasonable wage whilst my girlfriend struggles by on a budget in a receptionist's role. She's flat broke whilst I have a few spare quid most of the time.

I love her to bits and wouldn't dream of leaving her because she's broke and can't afford much. Money means very little to me, but I suppose not everybody's the same.

Now you know how I feel about it, ask her.

Yeah she knows I am broke. And when we do go out we both pay our own way. But since Ive no money she doesnt go out when I dont go out. So I feel like I am holding her back from having fun.

I suppose next week is annoying me since the bloke should take his girl out on there 2years but I cant :(

Or are all women like leeches? :(
Certainly not!

The best things in life are free! (Who sang that? Was it Lionel Richie?)

My BF and I have occasional nice meals out, and call them dates - but we tend to take it in turns (well, I've paid twice recently - through my own insistence - as the last one he organised was VERY swish and quite expensive...). I suspect he's somewhat better off than me, but not by huge amounts.

I think my girlfriend deserves better

It's up to her to decide what she deserves, not you.

You're just feeling like you want to punish yourself because you think you've done something terrible. You haven't; you've made a mistake and now you are managing the consequences rather than running away from them.

Ditching your GF in order to punish yourself further would be weak, not a nobel gesture.

I think you should sit down and talk to her, instead of asking for our views. You never know, she may be fine with it and will support you throughout.

Do this speak to her first before making any rash decisions. She might no that you are stuggling with money and doesnt bother her. Money should never be a reason to end a relationship imo if it is not even broke.

Kick her in the womb.

God i really wish people would stop immature comments like this to a serious question.... but there you go

INTERWEBS SERIOUS BUSINESS !
