Thinking of upgrading you GPU, grab a 980TI second hand seriously (secret 980Ti admiration thread)

Honest question, is 6GB of vram really that limiting today? I wouldn't really be using a 980Ti for 4k for example.

Not really...But resale value alone to upgrade down the line means the 980ti will lose again.

Stop this nonsense :p

Get a used 1070 for £300 with a warranty and then keep some of this value in a couple of gens...

Or get a used 980ti for £270 then lose more down the line re-selling it in a couple of gens...

Owner bias is strong in you.

Good deals can be had to suit all budgets, not sure why you would come into appreciation thread and spout trash, but hey, that's what some of you seem to enjoy.

Different opinions are fine, assumptions not so much.

Its nothing to do with that..

I've had a 980ti...It didn't cut the mustard at 3440 x 1440

I then got a 1070 returned it for a GTX 1080.

I have buying and selling PC hardware to know what is sensible at any given price range.

Saving yourself 30 quid for 2GB less ram, More heat, More power and gimped Driver support down the line makes no sense to anyone remotely Lucid :p

for what 2nd hand 980ti go for there is no point other than sli.

there are deals on 1070s now which make them not much more than a 2nd hand 980ti and have 3-5 yrs warranty.they run cooler mostly faster.

you wouldnt upgrade from a 980 ti to a 1070 though.

If you could get £270 for your 980ti and get a used 1070 for £300

Spending 30 quid would make sense if you could be bothered :p

This would allow you to squeeze as much value out of the 980ti as you could...

Couple of gens later....The 1070 you had would be worth more than the 5 year old 980ti you had....

But depends if you could be bothered...

For me a 30 quid side grade and a full three year warranty would be worth it....

But I'm addicted to the easy shuffle :p

I've been seriously tempted to pick up a second 980ti to put in SLI with my current one. It's starting to struggle with 60fps at 1440p with the latest games. But as per usual, I'll upgrade to the next ti, which will be the 1080ti.

Anyone paying £300 for a 980Ti needs looking at tbh :p

Yea, it's insane how cheap they are now. Makes me sad :( Feels like yesterday I dropped £600+ pre ordering mine.

It still handles 1440p damn well! Most games play at a solid 60fps. Only a select few have a few drops.

I was just thinking the other day that I want more FPS at 2560x1440 and that i should upgrade my 980Ti.

Problem is, what to? 1070 would be pointless, 1080 isn't quick enough to warrant the outlay for the upgrade and the TitanX is silly money..

Better off selling your 980ti to some sucker for £300 and buying a 1080 to be honest :p

Sli is nothing but a ballache these days.

All of this....

980ti SLI would be a power hungry ball throbber :p

Sell it and get yourself a 1080 ubersonic.

I dunno get 1080 deal from gibbo...

Sell your 980ti to some chump for 300 and get yourself current for £229

The 1080 clocked over 2ghz is a monster and drives all my games on my x34 at 100fps to match the 100hz

I have 2 980ti's across 2 systems when 1 is lacking i double up and still see no need to upgrade as they rip through anything 4k or 2560@144hz

Easy does make a very valid point in this case though I would say :)

1070 is worth the extra £30 over a 980Ti any day in my book.

no one is saying 980TI is not a solid card. It is and if you have one it will serve you well for quite some time. Several people here are making the point that it's not worth buying one for the sake of saving £30-50 or even a bit more, not when a 1070 is not much more. There is literally no valid reason. More memory, newer architecture, less power, cooler, warranty, all these things are worth more than a meagre false saving.

Of course for an extra £30 a 1070 is worth it, who is arguing otherwise? We/I were talking about £100 saving on a second hand 980Ti compared to a cheap 1070.

exactly where is this £30 quid difference come from. On avertage 1070s are going for 380 ish for cheap 1070s. £300 for a 980Ti second hand is quite expensive but thats at least £80 quid not £30

You can buy them second hand around £250 - £270 if you actually look. That's at least £100 quid. Zotac have 5 years warranty and are great cards. Don't think 980Ti has been out for 5 years quite yet? 980Ti launched what 2nd June 2015 so even with 2 years warranty there is still some left on cards so where these zero warranty keeps coming from just is bizarre.

I see some stuff being made up and it just comes across biased.
