This Business and Moment...

Cheers. It's an extra £150 a day more than I'm on now. I've been on the same rate before, but that was only a short term gig fixing some DXC screw ups for a new HCI platform using S2D/Hyper V.

This will be an initial 30 day contract, which will then extend to 12 months but the overall engagement with this client is 3 years. So long term potential. The recruitment company also told me that VMware will chuck me onto another customer afterwards so there's potential for much longer term work.

I think I'd be an absolute idiot to decline it if offered based on having an easier commute currently. It's literally the pinnacle of where I want to be within IT right now, the only thing that would be better would be home working but once having Senior Consultant for VMware Professional Services on my CV/LinkedIn I think that will come down the line and pass most CV sifts for VMware roles.

Congratulations!

I'm still looking to get out of my place, haven't had an interview in weeks and no job offers either. Aswell as mainland Europe, IT roles here in the Midlands are looking abit depressing too :(

Great news!!

Cheers - just going through the initial paperwork now, got my electronic contract and other bits, waiting for the referencing checks (it's for a bank so they need to do credit/reference checks etc) then I can finally hand in my notice here!!

Well **** just got real, just got an email from a vmware.com email address with an invite to phone interview on Friday afternoon.

Go for it - good luck! I always try and think when deciding whether or not to go for stuff like this, if I hadn't taken it, in 5 years time would I have regretted not doing it. Most of the time, the answer is yes! You only tend to regret the stuff you didn't do :D

I just got back from the bank. Mortgage approved and finalized. Next step is for them to arrange the evaluation of the property which should be done and completed within a week. The guy said speaking from experience he fully expects to be exchanged and keys in hand by the end of March.

This is getting very real :D

Nice one Phate. Exciting times ahead.

For me... didn't get the internal promotion and the external one has gone cold now too :(

Are you a consultant already, if so what do you need to become or say you are one?

Same question goes out to anyone who is in a similar field, as I'm thinking of doing the same but down the Microsoft route.

I'm just a generic infrastructure engineer, Senior Consultant is the job title. It's quite common nowadays, as it justifies higher permanent salaries.

I just happen to have worked a lot on VMware technologies over the years and I've gone and got a couple of VCP's as well.

I've also been a network engineer, Microsoft engineer, Linux engineer etc. I've generally touched most things in a datacentre but recently I decided to try and specialise myself in the VMware world.

Background checks have all gone through for the new job, and had a chat with my manager to say I'll be making it official on Monday when the CEO is back in (small office so he's essentially our main manager).

Now the waiting game, I'll finish end of March and start the new job on the 1st April :D

I've not long finished the interview, it was around an hour and focussed on SDDC, vSAN, storage and NSX. It was tough, but fair. The worst part was that it was a Belgian lad doing the interview, so there was a little bit of a language barrier and the line wasn't the greatest, but we got there in the end. He said his feedback will be positive. Well it must have been as not even 20 minutes had passed before the agency rang saying the role is mine and a contract is on the way!

Had I not gained two VCPs I don't think I'd be in this position, so it's nice to know the expense and work has paid off.

Very chuffed, where's the beer?

Amazing man! You worked for it, you got it and deserve it. Nice one!!

Congrats! I love the fast feedback from those sort of interviews, no messing around, just bam! Yes, we want you. :D

Lost out on the job abroad because I said I was concerned that my working situation may be affected by Brexit

Made it clear that I’d be happy to start but they’ve gone with another candidate. I’m a bit annoyed to be honest as I could have just not said anything... being honest obviously was a strong strategy... anyway I’m of the opinion that if they want to take my concerns and use them against me like that then I may have dodged a bullet.

Sorry to hear that. Seems a bit nonsensical that you merely expressing a concern/acknowledging a risk would be a reason for rejection... only exception perhaps being that they had been living in a cave for the past three years or so, were completely unaware of Brexit and you’d somehow highlighted the issue to them. Very odd, perhaps you are indeed better off not having landed that role!

Got an interview today for a Deputy Headteacher role at a school which is in special measures. Currently a Head of Department at an outstanding school and quite apprehensive about the jump (next logical step for me would be Assistant Headteacher) and the fact that I know I will be amongst the youngest there... Ah well, will see how this pans out!

Thanks guys.

I think the end customer is desperate for the VMware PSO engineers, or VMware are desperate to fill the positions since I'd imagine they won't get paid until they do. Either way I am not putting in my notice until I see a contract.

My wife works at Novartis much like I do. She's an Admin Specialist within Oncology Research.

It's very hard to get your foot in the door here, even as an admin. She knows it's an admin role, she was like it's not hard but scope to bust ass and climb up. Previously spent 6yrs in the NHS in the UK, and prior to that was working at Proctor & Gamble as well as Llyods as customer service rep. She has no degree, worked from when she was young.
Since she's been in this role (1.5yrs) she has busted ass, and taken on another persons role as they moved to look after someone directly (as an Exec Ass.) and really does a great job. She said last year to her boss that she was aiming for the next step up as Admin Expert this year, which was acknowledged and written into objectives for the year. She's just had her 1:1 with her manager who said it wasn't going to happen as it can take years to climb up... yet her counter part (who moved to be an EA) was made the same expert from specialist after a year. She raised this and got told "but she has qualifications..."
I was fuming when I read it, I mean, wtf degree do you need to do admin and WTF does it make a difference if you're excelling at the role? Her manager can be a complete dick and does **** all (I've known her manager about 8yrs since starting).

I just wanted to ******* rant basically. There is so little loyalty in places, everyone is just a sly **** who just cares about licking the ass of their boss and the politics.

Arghh.

Anyway, VolAir released our app on TestFlight last night, so we are getting close. You can also play Goat Clash officially release at https://clash.goat.cash and we've just dropped 50,000 $GOAT to Heifer to help solve world poverty. **** this big company politics ********.

Oh, and we have found another house, waiting to hear from the architect on this one and see if we can build what we'd like...

:P

As expected I was the youngest there and up against actual Assistant Heads who had years of experience on me. Didn't get the Deputy role but they verbally offered Assistant Head which is great.
Any advice on how to go about negotiating salary? It's different from the private industry in that we have a set pay scale and it's usually based on your experience rather than ability. I want to aim for an ability based point on the scale which isn't much less than the Deputy role offered but not sure how it will go down...
