This Business and Moment...

Hump day in the last week. Offloaded about 75% of my ongoing cases to my successor yesterday so I've got a few days to focus on tieing up loose ends, getting some matters through to exchange/completion for clients I've wanted to see through to the end and a load of admin paperwork.

No intentions to leave people in the **** like most who have left in the past.

Still excited, and still no regrets :D

Reading about those day rates above is sickening. Maybe I should career change again..

Where Really you off to?

Started my new job in December, still there. It was a shame to leave my last job due to the customer base but they just couldn't pay me enough and I need the money quite frankly.

Lots of stuff going on constantly, I need to streamline a lot of things as most stuffs just been bodged together so everything works.

So a small update, nothing has been going on much with jobs. Was getting abit down over the past few weeks as I was apply for loads of jobs and nothing was coming of them.

The job in Sweden I had a Skype interview for last month contacted me to say they picked someone else, other role in Germany which was a phone interview 4 weeks ago haven't got back to me either so I'm going to class that as me being unsuccessful too.

Then a slight hope had shined through this week, thanks to a fellow Overclocker they have got me a interview for a role in Switzerland, which is happening tomorrow over the phone, Monday had a Skype interview for a role in Germany, they contacted me today to say they want a second Skype interview tomorrow, Tuesday, had a Skype interview for a role in The Netherlands, Wednesday had a phone interview for a role in my local area and they have invited me for a second phone interview also tomorrow.

So tomorrow I have 3 interviews

But I'm not going to get my hopes up as I was down this path a few months back and all of them rejected me in the end, so I will do my best with these tomorrow.

Refreshing experience this morning. My current employer is making some decisions which will go very badly for them in the medium term and has left our department in a situation, since the start of the year, where we are in limbo. We are specifically been told we are (currently at least) not under the threat of redundancy but we are not supposed to do our normal work (some is getting done anyway as we don't want to leave people in the lurch) but they basically can't say what we will be doing in the future. There is a lot of talk of making us do roles which would, in affect, be a 10 year step back in career path which is unlikely to end well. But we literally have had no information for two months now!

As such i don't know anyone not looking elsewhere. So was contacted by a recruiter yesterday regarding a position they wanted to put my CV in for, looked interesting so I said yes, and heard back this morning ... Shock horror it was a no (which I actually expected would be the answer) but the shock was the company actually provided very good, positive, feedback why they were rejecting the application which was refreshing and did indicate that what I was trying to get across in my CV had got through. Given the number of times you can hear nothing for ages, or ever, this was a semi-pleasant surprise.

(Any typos in the above are down to the keyboard on this tablet which is seriously driving me up the wall)

It's a shame it's a shock for that to happen. I've been job hunting for about 6 weeks now and the best feedback I've got was not enough management experience. I've had a few thanks but no thanks emails which at least means I know they had a look

My guesstimate is more than 50% of applications come back with nothing, feels like I might as well be printing it off and flushing it down the toilet. The most annoying ones are where you spend the best part of an hour going through a careers portal trying to stick in all the info you've already given in the cv then the questionnaires on race and sexuality etc only to never hear from them again. Next time I have to apply through a careers portal they can shove it  /rant

Agree totally ... the number of times you provide a CV and then are expected to regurgitate the information again on some web form as well as provide them with the CV.

Of the last 5 jobs I've applied for I've heard back from one ... of the others two of them are a bit soon to expect to hear anything but the other two I suspect its been a no with no response at all.

I would start a new thread but I don't think this situation warrants it. I've moved roles in my company, from being on the Production floor to being office based, a role which is more in line with my career interests and what I studied for etc. Part of my new role involves liaising with a number of my old colleagues on the shop floor. However, their demeanor towards me has changed - whereas before we all got on well, were friendly etc, now I'm met with short answers and a generally unhelpful attitude. A number of people have mentioned that it could just be jealousy that I've progressed, however I've not had to deal with something like this before. It's worth noting that I've only been in this new role for a month, will this animosity eventually die off, or am I in for the long haul?

You're in The Ivory Tower now. I'm sure they probably think those 'office people' do less work than them etc. Of course they'll be jealous. I'm sure at some point you might have thought similar, maybe one of those reasons is why you wanted to make the move.

My interview Thursday was pretty intense, the first with the Head of Finance/Deputy Head of Finance I felt went okay, I was not prepared for how savage the meeting straight after with the CFO/Finance Director level would be though. She's an ex VP of Finance (among other roles) of some huge blue-chip companies so very senior and experienced commercially, I struggled but I did get through it, I hadn't experience something like it before.

Should hear back early next week, but going into it according to the recruiter I was the leading candidate (dunno if they say that to everyone!) out of 3. It will be a huge step up from what I'm currently doing, but I'm not going to get anywhere if I don't work hard so I shouldn't complain :D

Had 2 interviews yesterday, the local job didn't happen as their HR person isn't back from leave yet so that will probably happen next week.

The other 2 interviews seem to have gone ok but I will see what the next stage is in the next few days if I get through.

Got feedback this morning from The Netherlands interview I had on Tuesday and again rejected! :( They felt I could fit the organization and in terms of skills I would be able to get up to speed on a short term but because I had other interviews during the week they felt my motivation wasn't 100% convincing. Also they have decided to add more managerial and strategic components to the job description. So what was they expecting me to do, apply for one job, wait, then if I don't succeeded apply for another job then wait again?!?!?! Considering how completive the job market in IT is these days and they decided move the goalposts halfway through recruiting.....Thanks!!

Feels like I was fighting a loosing battle from the start with that feedback.

Very annoying (to the say the least!) on the goalposts being moved. I applied (directly) for a job in 2017 at an ISP. Turned out the person who monitored the HR/Jobs mailbox was on holiday and nobody else was checking it despite them having active adverts! Grr! They'd also given somebody a second interview on the day I applied (when applications were still open)
