This Business and Moment...

Absolutely, but I still think it’s worth letting them know that they’ve wasted your time.

Being honest that you’ve lost out at their expense isn’t going to burn any bridges if you keep calm and be firm. Wording it that “I’m disappointed that I made the journey, when it seems clear the decision to fill the position had been decided. I was excited at the opportunity to interview but financially it has left a sour taste in my mouth”. You can come up with something better, but you get the gist.

Ringing them up and calling them all ******* is probably not the tactic I was recommending :D

Hahaha, you won't believe what happened, a different person that work for this company that shall remain unamed approached me on Linkedin last week asking me if I was interested in a job in area xyz, I said I'm interested and would love to hear more about it. Turns out it's for the very job that I was told was already taken so I asked again, are you sure this job is available?

They said yeah sure, then I told them I've already had an interview and that I was told the position had been filled, they asked who interviewed me, told them.

Received no reply, asked the following day and a few days after that as well if there were any updates on the job application. **** Ignored me

Honestly had enough of this profession, I'm negotiating hourly rates every single day for shifts and when it comes to applying for something permanent they just want the cheapest person

I'm out

I've signed up for some udemy courses to get a basic understanding of python, SQL etc

Ouch, that smacks like they didn't think you were qualified / skilled/ good enough in the interview and merely told you that the position had been filled to get rid of you.

Either way, I don't know why they didn't just tell you and I definitely don't know why they approached you on LinkedIn after already asking you?

Believe me when I say this but I'm definitely qualified enough for this job, in fact some people go straight for this position instead of doing the intermediate step, which I did so I wouldn't face any of this rubbish.

They were impressed in the interview, the interviewer said they'd put an acceptance offer in immediately. Why lie

It makes you think why are they recruiting in the first place?

Similar to when I applied for a job once, had the interview then to be told I am suited for the job but because I had other interviews lined up they didn't want to employ me?!?!?!

I have a job interview via Skype next week with a company in Austria, for a role as Worldwide CRM coordinator. They are looking for someone who has a level of Salesforce technical knowledge, experience of rollout management & implementation, worked in multiple countries, participated in UAT/BAT, carried out Early Life Support, ongoing adoption support and someone who is a confident trainer. Well that's pretty much exactly what I have spent the last three years doing so let's see how it goes.

I did not meet their minimum qualification stipulations but I "did a Trump" and applied anyway, in the hope that my profile would get their attention.
My girlfriend lives in Austria already and has an apartment which makes that side of things nice and simple, I can just move in with her - but the thought of tying up everything here (mainly what to do with my cars and all my junk!) is a bit overwhelming.

Still, let's not count our chickens - there's a long way to go before I think properly about all that stuff. The company looks great from my research, and the prospect of an £18,000 pay rise is also rather enticing.

Glad I didn't count those chickens - rejected.

Virtually no reason given, just "we have decided not to progress your application" even after asking for feedback. The email was very polite but also to the point and as vague as possible.

The interview went very well as far as I could tell, both on a chemistry level and a work-based level, so I'm not sure what went wrong really.

My guess is it's one or more of the following factors:

  • I don't interview as well as I think I do
  • I'm not as good as I think I am
  • It was a token advertisement and they already had an internal candidate in mind
  • Brexit. It was mentioned by them more than once in the interview, and I wonder if the prospect of Brexit affecting my residence in Austria had an impact on the decision

Bizarrely, this job has come back around after 6 months.

This week I have had a voicemail, an email, a Linkedin connection and now a Linkedin message from the people who interviewed me asking if I'm still interested and would I come for an interview.

Six months after being brushed off! Anyone had something like this before?
The problem is, although the role is still enticing I'm now in a job I love at a company I love, and my experience with these guys last year wasn't that great.

Answered your own question, you are at a place you now love so why look at a company which bushed you off before.

When I was contracting this happened a few times. But I was always in contact when the call came. It made no sense to leave a paying job for a company that's indecisive.

I've had it happen at 6 months (after 2x 3 month temp to perm fell through on them) and 4 years before. I moved to London on the basis of a job that was as close as a sure thing as it could be short of actually confirmed which then went cold - 4 years later when I'd moved again I got a phone call asking me if I was still interested LOL. Generally IMO companies like that are likely to think nothing of messing you around.

Interesting couple of days...

Signed sale agreement on a house.
Drafting a sales agreement for a small deal for emotuit ($2.5k setup fee, $3k per year paid at $250 a month)
Signing on partners for our VolAir customers to give them more around travel. https://www.royaltyexoticcars.com/ in Vegas coming on board, as well as these resorts:

As well as an outage at my day job meaning I worked 26hours over mon-tuesday, which was pain.

A balance of a week for sure!

Man, been some fun times of late. How is everyone?

Sales agreement sent for emotuit. Chasing that.
Signed partners being chased for some documentation.
Marketing opportunity arisen to be a vendor at Magic Johnson's 60th birthday in St Tropez in Sept for VolAir. List of people going is crazy. Would be a great marketing opportunity. Need to do 2 things to make it happen: Finish app testing, add a couple of features, test, launch. Redo site. Sell 2 tickets to this event to help lower the costs :o
Anyone want to do a 6 day jolly with Drake and Samuel L Jackson etc. all access VIP, only 10k a piece? :D

Too much flying.
Too much non productive time.
Too many lawyers bills.

Apartment/Home
All gone well here. Been here 2 weeks now. Love it! Absolutely love it! I spent a week decorating and painting the place myself after a decorator wanted to completely rip me off. I told him to jog on, bought the paint myself and got on with it. I am dead chuffed with how well its turned out.

Everything is falling into place (thank Project Management Skills here) - new sound system being installed tomorrow, projector screen is on order and should be here in ~2 weeks. Going to be a beast of a setup when its done. Got a friend and his wife staying as they're inbetween apartments so they have been helping with assembling of furniture, cleaning, generally making the place a home. Internet is being installed Saturday morning. Also have bought a bunch of Philips Hue to begin making the home a bit less dumb :p - was going to do the whole apartment but frankly the bank account is looking a bit too unhealthy for my liking so I'll wait for some sales :p :)

I've got more furniture arriving next week but then I am off to the UK for a week from Wednesday so everything will go on hold whilst I am away. I get back, will get the place completely finished off by the end of the month. My cats come to me first weekend of May, then the following Friday (so the 10th, if you're keeping up) I have the roommate moving in, then on the 11th, house warming party :D

Work
So I know I was feeling a bit itchy in my current role. It was becoming a bit stale and I was looking at moving into Project Management. But the brakes got put on that as there is very little movement in many teams due to the end of FY approaching. So ~July time is the earliest anything could change. However, in our yearly anonymous review my manager must have received some pretty universal and honest feedback, as he sat there in front ~50 of us and admitted he hasn't done enough in terms of focusing on us and helping us grow, improving our visibility, etc etc....fair play to the guy.

Shortly following that we had my yearly review which went well. I mentioned the project management to him but instead of saying I want to change teams I proposed some ideas to him of how I can utilise this to improve our team performance as a whole. Things like helping with content, readiness, supportability, taking on a more senior approach and business approach to our team. I feel myself a more business orientated person instead of purely technical anyway. He was very enthusiastic about this and set some objectives to me which were specific around this, so I feel this has given me really good focus going forward. Feeling very happy overall.

TL:DR - Been busy AF. But all is working out well :D

Thought I'd start something of a blog here for my job hunting in NYC, I moved from London about 6 months ago and got my work permit sorted about 3 months ago. Since then I have been meeting recruiters and sending out applications but mostly been met with thanks but no thanks e-mails or more often just no response at all. I was starting to get a little depressed about it but finally had my first interview in NYC last week.

It was for a role at a top hedge fund and I knew going into it that the role might be a bit of a stretch and almost turned down the interview but decided to give it a go. Interview went well although it became apparent that there was indeed quite a knowledge gap

The feedback I received after was that they were impressed with my skills and background and think I would be a good fit for the company, so they have sent my CV over to the head of another dept where I have more experience so hopefully something comes from that. So I guess moral of the story is head up take chances see what happens.
