This Business and Moment...

^^ Good luck! Keep us posted ;)

I had a **** working weekend, which is great for seeing the family and that but I'm so behind with everything. We have a ticket for an internal dashboard, which was "done" with just a basic table listing out details... yet doesn't fill my criteria set out in the ticket, with wireframes. So need to get that pushed quicker, while recruiting for more people (it takes soooooo damn long).

UGH.

Random one though; Someone from the Learning team at Novartis Pharma here in Basel asked to meet me to talk about what we're doing. We haven't branched into the Corp Learning space currently due to dev effort for the integrations, but if I could put this in with a project cost and then yearly license on top, it would be a winner. Meeting him after work tonight.

Do it. There is a lot more money in Corp learning that there is in education. I'd personally push that as a priority. The amount we spend on learning platforms is crazy. The great thing about the corp space is also that you can probably build a better ROI/Business case based on making them more efficient/sell more etc.

I do agree. I will try and get some interest from them, so at least it could fund building more. As you say, a lot more money poured into the space in all sectors of it.

I've booked my trips to Boston end of this month and then another trip to Salt Lake City in May. I'm on a "we have no ******* money and need to make the most of these trips" push, so managed to get the boston flights and airbnb for 6 days for just under $1k, and now hammering a hit list of colleges and Unis while I'm there. I'm currently doing a lunch and learn with a company called Affectiva and meeting the head of the MIT ILI lab, which is a bit strategic, so now need to hard sales meetings, too.

Chat went well, he's a sound guy and wants to intro me to the Global Head of Novartis "University" - they've just created a global learning division as before it was all spread out and they had 13 LMSs!! Now they're consolidating to just the 1 and have chosen Cornerstone for it. It would be a a nice corporate one to get integrated with, as they have some decent large clients by the looks of things (https://www.cornerstone.com/clients). Don't know what will come of it, but hey, see how/where it goes

links :p

You're going to smash it dude! You know it.

Setting up more meetings with Novartis learning now. I was speaking to someone who has done project work with them before, and it has the potential to be very much a lucrative project if I can get it setup right and block out the billing (and persuade them they want what we offer) - it's led me to think about our "offering" in that space, and have something more basic, not using our cool tech, but using pure events and data analysis to provide better analytics than they have (they have none) and that the vendor offers, with the option of enabling our engagement analytics on courses they want it. Could essentially use the project to fund the development of the suite of tools for enterprise. Then resell it over the road to Roche.

I've got another development I'm hashing out to present to them as well, see where that leads. Need to make it look real before our meeting though ha

The world is my oyster... analytics, insight, BI, assurance, OSS & BSS systems. Also looking at BA or project manager roles etc, essentially I can do it all... if HR listen to me, that is :p Proj mang looks rather boring compared to actually building the stuff but I'd give a go as it's another bit of experience and opens up more doors.

The role I applied for should allow me to use Python and R. I've not used R before so that is an interesting aspect.

Ah good stuff! Some interesting areas. I suppose it depends if you want to be delivering on technical or managing it. I hate delivering things personally now, but then I also hate SharePoint and anything that falls under a "collaboration" theme as I've done it for so long now it makes me want to drive splinters into my *******. I'm much happier managing the processes, with enough technical knowledge to know things can be done, but without having to do it :P haha

Morning all,

So remember when I was talking about my business idea and I had spoken with an investor (uncle in law) and his daughter about collaborating a the idea together to help us all out?

Well I had a phone call last night from the daughter asking how the new job was going and if I was still interested in the business venture.

Thing is, I originally came up with the idea to get me out of the horrid airline job, and right now I am really happy where I am. However, they want me to consider beginning the venture on the side in my "spare time"

Sounds selfish, but I am really beginning to enjoy the fact I don't get calls at all hours, the fact I don't have a manager breathing down my neck chasing me unnecessarily at 10pm etc..

Told them I'll think about it :o

I suppose it's the question of; what do you want long term? Steady career in a nice company like MS, or more than that? The latter comes with the potential positives, and a **** load of upfront negatives. I finished this morning at 2am. I'm pouring every hour and penny into it, but we're getting some good traction now, so I'm hoping it gets easier (but from people I know having been through it, it's doesn't, it just changes).

I've got the possible opportunity to pull a bit of an IBM coming up, having the chance to sit down with Mr Global Head of Learning at Novartis. I will of course be presenting the case to develop a solution for their analytics, but since he's looking at the whole of learning and tying it all together better (his actual job title is Global Head of Novartis University) I thought I would present both emotuit analytics to them and also the Holomua career pathway management software (https://holomua.co) - Excuse the limited site, I did it last night as quickly as possible and will be tweaking it over the rest of the week before I meet them. I wanted to basically present the "product/company" to them. It would require some custom work for their specific systems anyway, and I have a team on hand to deliver it in 8 weeks, should I get a project from them out of it.

Hence going to bed at 2am.

You.need to decide if you're going to use 'organisation' or 'organisation' :)

And 'as' instead of 'has' here?
"companies stating employee turnover as a huge negative impact on productivity"

Yeah it's not the sort of thing you do half cocked - you might be able to offer some consultancy service, but that will probably mess around with your contract at MS.

This is exactly why I just kinda shrugged it off. I obviously like the idea of being my own boss (having been it before) and potentially making a lot of money that way to provide financial stability for me and my family. HOWEVER...

I am enjoying MS oh so very much :o

To the point...I just don't want the hassle. I am earning a very comfortable amount of money now. Enough for us to pay for our life, save up, splash out and enjoy ourselves. I am comfortable and happy! I'm very content with this.

Don't confuse this with not progressing...I want to grow within MS and have a good career there.

I think I'll take out huge, or reword it totally. Thanks. It was late and my eyes started going fuzzy :P
I'll have a scan through for organisations, too. Good spot, thanks!

I've just interviewed a great dev guy, senior, with great devops exp as well as front end, so full stack. Also has edtech experience, so that's a bonus. I like him. I want him. Now to negotiate... I have 2 more people to get on trial, too. I just need to get to speak with them properly again and work out an onboarding process :/

Oh, and massive plus, just had an email from Tennessee Tech asking us to go and demo for a mini internal conference that they host at the uni, saying, I quote: " Yours is an amazing tool that fits perfectly with our culture and goals, so I’d love to feature it again in our new setting."

Which is kinda cool. My year is busy.

@randomshenans Excellent news. Out of interest where/how did you source your dev guy?
