This Business and Moment...

I disagree. They want to see you have something about you. I'd never hire someone who doesn't have a bit of character and some special achievements outside of work.

You're right in the sense of not just listing 'I like cross stitch', but to think that good employers don't care about hobbies is not accurate IMO

Every job I've had they want to know skills and what you can bring to the table. Never had a company care about what you get up too on a weekend. Maybe I have been in the wrong areas that's all? possible...

Seems increasingly companies just want superficial people who tick off certain boxes :(

People can surprise you though in both directions - lad working with me at the moment - at face value you'd think he'd just be there for a laugh not really apply himself, etc. but comes in puts his work hat on so to speak and gives 110% for the core of the job, always on time, competent - quite refreshing actually as increasingly those hires of his age group have needed telling a dozen times before they catch on to how to do parts of the job and don't' really care even then - tell him once, maybe twice tops and away he goes and gets it right. On the other hand though once the fundamental part of the job is done he doesn't seem to see a need to apply himself to any other tasks which in some ways I can't blame him but still it is the nature of the job.

If it gets the job done to high standard what else does a company want apart from someone to make them money or to do the job properly.

It really depends on what the job is. In tough environments it's important that you're employing someone who you know can cope - just looking at a set of skills doesn't tell you that. Equally, if you're looking to hire the very best sales people, you're going to need to find someone with character, intelligence and is massively coachable - again, something difficult to determine by just looking at a load of skills on a CV.

Agreed. :)

I see house sales people aren't included in that category then

I'd agree. Most of the time now, you will have 3082323 CVs, all of which have, on paper, what is required for the role. It's not really that that ensures from a hiring point of view that they will fit with the rest of the team though. Which I think is why it's important to make sure you understand what sort of person they are outside of that as well.

Just read your post about he Blockchain...that's incredible. Still something I don't fully understand and really wish I did. So many potential business opportunities...could really be onto something there. I wonder what skills are needed for this... hmm.

From my side things are good. Had a truly excellent feedback meeting with my manager at the end of last year (cannot remember if I posted here) but she basically said I've had an excellent start in my FTE position and I am doing well in all the main areas that are essential...things like customer service, exposure within the company, technical abilities...

My intention for now is to keep pushing hard to have a very very wrongs first year. Like others January has just disappeared on me. Lots of new initiatives being introduced by myself and a teammate to our team within PT and the acceptance has been good so far with our manager giving us free rein and fill support which has been great for making us feel empowered :)

Ha @Phate It's a space I was interested in, and it fitted an idea that I'd previous had around credentials. This is really opening up though and I have a fantastic team of advisors, a great internal team and our roadmap is so strong.

We're just lining up for a private finance round with one advisor of $1m to take us to ICO, then we are targeting $10.5m and then it's all go. Everything is planned, we are already working with unis, I'm in talks with partnership companies (pearson VUE, degreed, checkr) and now going for someone like Udacity and a big company like FB/Google/Apple (I have friends doing some digging).

It's funny, that internal job I went for at work and had 2323 interviews for, well today they really poorly informed me I didn't get the position. I was mainly annoyed about the way they did it (just cancelled a meeting on me, no description etc. I asked if it was being rearranged and got an email just saying, no, sorry we're going with someone else) but as outlined in here, I wasn't sure about the role having spent more time hearing about it and I would have had a lot to do. Right now I'm so busy on my ventures, I would have hated it.

Bonus also; finished v1.1 of the white paper today. Only took me from 7:30am to about 20 mins ago. My eyes are bleeding.

Nights got more crazy with some people I've just been speaking to. I suppose that's what happens at nearly 3am.

I've just done something brave...applied for my first contract role and it's outside of the UK!

Well, had the interview today and didn't think it went well...but then 2 hours later or so I had a call to tell me that I'd been successful with an offer!

So I'm hoping to fly out to Sweden on 26th February to start my new venture with Ikea :)

Congrats! I imagine most of the interview candidates struggled with assembling a chest of drawers to be fair.

Nice!

I just had a call from my manager in the US informing me they won't be renewing my contract at the end of March. Now, half of me is like ****. The other is like meh, I hated it anyway. I am talking about raising money in the next 2 weeks with Path anyway... I reckon I can get it to work! Just got to press the foot to the floor and keep the pressure on!

Telephone interview soon. Given no info on what’ll be asked etc etc. First one I’ve ever had, so it’ll be an experience :p. Booked an office at work so I shouldn’t be interrupted.

Tips?

Know the company and what they do, have your reasons prepped for why you want to work there and why you're looking to move on, you may be asked about expected salary too (I ask this early on to ensure that we're on the same wavelength otherwise it could just be a big waste of time).
