This Business and Moment...

What's your role? ocUK might be able to help! Post your linkedin, I have a load of connections that might be useful.
Currently an Instrument Technician in Oil & Gas, looking to move either offshore / overseas in the same role or stick to land if the right position arises that lets me progress along my path a bit better! LinkedIn can be found here. Very kind of you offer randomshenans, you sometimes forget how humane and friendly OCUK can be at times! :)

@Phate I don't suppose you have any contacts at MS in high up recruitment? I'm looking to try and bring on someone as an adviser with our new venture; Path. MS would be a good certificate issuer and also a good customer for partnership, so having someone on our advisory board would be great.
I'm sure MS do background checks on employees when they join, checking work history and qualifications etc. so we'd love to speak to someone high up who essentially oversees all of that, but at a top level. Know anyone at all? I would keep your name out of anything if you wanted me to :P

At 31, is it too late to pursue a career in the Police force? It's something that I regret not going for when I was younger and now I've hit a brick wall where I am I'd like to see If it's still an option.

As to what in the Police force, I'm not entirely sure.

Don;t see why that would stop you, still got 30 years left or so! Could look at the PCSO route to see if you like it first of all.

Thanks @skaif I think it was OK. The person I met was head of learning operations, which actually has no much to do with technology and I am confident I understand the modern learning space and learning technology better than he does. He comes from an HR'y background, but very much been at the company years, not much change etc.
I fear this role will see me stuck in a consultant type position between the business and learning without much autonomy to have an impact in the areas which I have great experience; learning technology and analytics. I'm going to raise this with the next person I am meeting on Friday.

I was really excited about the role before this, now I just want to make sure it's not something that will equally frustrate me and offer me less cash.

No, plenty of people join later in life, and some even later than you. I'm assuming you mean as a PC rather than staff?

Had a great couple of meetings yesterday after my interview. My Path venture (www.PathCo.in) has just signed up Tec de Monterrey uni as pilot users. Means we have 3 universities now and then I spoke with Pearson VUE who, like prometric (also on my hit list) do professional certs like Cisco etc. and we're going to start talking to their product guys to see if we can work out how to make something happen...

Nope, we have people in their 50's apply for our police force and they get through too.

I was 30 when I applied, over Christmas I got my start date for July this year so 32 going into the force.

Honestly I would say its the perfect age to go in, you have some good life experience behind you and I really think that is what helped me get through.

Go for it!!

So as above I start the police in July pending vetting, fitness and medical which is great.

However had a big bust up with the boss of the company I work for today who has really peed me off. You would think that after hitting £1.1million sales in second year of trading (they had nothing in the Uk before I started) would be enough to keep them happy? Wrong! One of my big customers has just moved on because of the service our factory had provided and my other big one has shipped back £40k worth of goods due to them being poorly made. The MD is now putting the pressure on me to fill the shortfall and try and palm off the seconds to someone else.

He also questioned what I was doing with my 40hr week and what was my plans moving forward.

I had to bite my tongue and not tell him to go do one! Am I the one being unreasonable or is he in the right? OK my motivation is pretty rock bottom at the minute and I may not be doing 100% but I did say to him that if I was sat on my hands the figures would say otherwise!
