I like that! However, i don't think i would be comfortable moving forward on a decision because i didn't get a reply. Somewhere down the line it would bite me on the ass no doubt. However, it may gee up someone to reply in the first place.

It depends on the circumstances.
When you've ended up without a boss within the org for over a year you tend to develop a pretty good feeling for this. My technique tended to be a little more direct, going to levels up and emailing their boss's boss (large org), naturally being polite but getting the work done.

Definitely seems that way - sadly I doubt they are done with making roles redundant in my place though so far I've escaped, quite a few businesses around here are going to the wall and/or doing substantial layoffs - whatever the intentions might have been Labour have pushed many struggling businesses over the edge this year by the looks of it especially with the extra NI costs.

Certainly kick the can upwards if needs be. It's a judgement call. Had one yesterday someone sitting on work, by asking a million questions, I cut them off saying my availability had closed, and I was no longer part of their project and my part was completed.
I think a lot of places particularly in tech, are on a cost cutting drive. Or shuffling their spend to look better in the market.
Think Im going walk out my job soon before my end date of 30th Feb.
Since they called me into the office to basically sack me in October, I haven't been doing much apart from letting the guys in India take over.
Today I was working from home and my boss asked me about a quote for some servers, we always do video calls and he could see I was at home. I work in the office most of the time, its 1hr on the train, to the office and back.
He sent me an email saying. As its my last month in Feb, he wants me to be in the office 5 days a week to an handover?!!? I thinking to myself why? I have been doing that remotely to the Indian team since November and they haven't hired anyone in the office to replacement meSo I have no one to physically do a handover to.
So he wants me to be at my desk, basically doing nothing apart the odd shoulder tap "oh, my laptop isn't working"
And I have walked, done! I'm officially unemployed.
HR wasn't happy....considering I had three weeks left to work. Not sure why when they gave me my notice back in October.
Anyway booked a few weeks in Canary Islands and Mexico, while applying for jobs remotely. I need a break

I've got an interview on Friday with a big main contractor in construction for a low carbon something. It fits me perfectly, and I know the business very well as my wife used to work there, but also because I've delivered many successful projects with their Scottish arm. I'm very excited - really hope it comes good - though I am worried about leaving my current place should it come through.

Had another interview today, wasn't too bad, but I always kick myself later on when I have time to think of much better answers. I estimate my later answers are about 10x better than my on the spot answers, sux.

I didn't get the job I interviewed for the other day. First company in 6 months of job hunting to actually bother writing feedback. My take away is when asked to summarise my experience I answered too thoroughly, a quick tech summary would have been more effective.
I had another interview this morning and made it through to the next/final stage, so fingers crossed for that next week.

Had my class meet-up "graduation" drinks last night.. so a little tired this morning

Had two final stage interviews this week. Yesterday one was ready to make me an offer....then the salary came in as 14K a year less
Than what I was on before and I took a paycut for that job back then.Told them I wasn't taking a paycut and the salary was too low for a person of my skillset (20 years working in IT with Azure, MS365 and Intune experience). They ran this through their "Salary Matrix" Some silly spreadsheet which hasn't been updated since 2015, so nothing in their salary matrix to reflect inflation and the tax increase we got where I live in Switzerland.
They have gone back to look at the numbers, so we shall see. I really want the job but Im not financially handicapping myself again after what happened the last time.
In the meantime, getting back into learning German again, will be reading that book over the holiday. Doing abit of automation with Terraform and Powershell in Azure....Oh yeah and this AI thing people are talking about recently
Might look at doing the Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Fundamentals exam, just to get an idea what this is all about.Already built my own self-hosted Deepseek server on my virtual server, just to play around with.

Are you Zürich based? Market in Switzerland isn't great here at all to be honest, I'm privy to a fair bit more information than most and it's a bit bleak for some. Sounds like you've got plenty of experience though so you shouldn't be affected but I'd say there are definitely some more junior people squeaking!

Yeah, I've been living in Switzerland for nearly 6 years, I have no plans returning back to the UK.
I can just about get by on High German, never mind Swiss German.. Lol. I had a Swiss girlfriend for 2 years, even then we mostly spoke English and barely any German or Swiss German. I regret not making more of an effort back then.
But the market here is bleak, many jobs are now asking for fluent in German along with other random tech requirements. When befere German was an advantage not a requirement. But looks to be tech recession world wide.
