Was 150 yds from OCUK - now 0.5 mile; they moved
After many years of not exercising and drinking loads of beer over the years I have decided to lose it!

I'm 5ft 11" and just weighted myself at 16 and 3/4 stone! I'm 32 years old, and up until I was 19/20 I had a 32" waist, but around this time I stopped playing football and just generally stopped exercising. I slowly pilled on the pounds, mainly from years of drinking booze, I have 2-3 beers a day 4-5 days a week and maybe binge drink 10+ pints about every 7-10 days.

I have decided to change and get fitter.

I bought some new trainers, and went for a jog tonight.

1.93miles in 29mins and 14seconds. I didnt manage to jog it all, I started walking twice, maybe three times to catch my breath back.

Anyway here is a pic of today me!

I got in from my run tonight and had a craving for a pork and stuffing sarnie lol, but I resisted and grabbed an apple.

I want to get down from a 40" waist down to a comfy 34"

Good on you for posting in here, and good on you for getting on it and doing something about it. :)

What's your diet like? That's the key to shedding the lbs, exercise acts as a catalyst to it. :)

Well not the best to be honest.

Have takeaway twice a week typically. I tend to find salads boring as hell, I need ideas for rich flavoursome healthy food to be honest.

And I 100% know I need to cut my drinking down lots! Thats the main thing. I drink loads of Coke also. I tend to go to a local cash and carry type place called Makro and buy a 24 pack 330ml cans of coke, and tend to do that every 10 days or so. About a week ago I started drinking pure apple juice in stead when at home.

jogging might not be great for your knees, consider low-impact options

diet is obvs one, no more beer... consider paleo, soup, etc... to give you a kick start and just learn to think about what's in ur food

could also put on a bit of muscle, grab some dumbells or something

Afraid to tell you that apple juice will be still terrible for you, probably actually more sugar per ml than in coke :(

Try hard to make very good friends with water.

:edit: Massive kudos to you for jumping in the deep end! Creating a log here was an awesome decision :D

I was getting on for the same weight/height as you - under 15 stone now - generally through tricks..

e.g. keep a bottle of water next to the pc, so u dont go to the fridge

cucumber sandwiches!

rice noodle stir fry!

you get the idea

oh and meat... haven't felt the need to buy any, at all

Are you mad! I cannot live without meat. Love meat, help me with what meat is healthy! Pressed ham maybe? or something similiar? For sarnies.

What makes things difficult is that I work from home with regular visits to places like OcUK and their competitors. Grabbing some food from KFC/Burger King etc is easy. But I'm trying to get into M&S for their brown bread sandwiches are wraps then.

I would have thought Apple juice would be fine lol. See I have lots to learn still.
Also Tea is out the question I cannot stand tea. Hate it! Water is ok, but so boring, what about flavoured water, is that ok?

billysielu, not gonna lie, that's some pretty horrific advice :p

Breakfast should be things like oats and whey or eggs.

Lunch should be wholemeal rice and chicken/turkey, you'll even be able to add some sauce to make it nicer for you. Or salmon with a nice crunchy salad with an olive oil dressing.

Dinner should be veg, sweet potato and chicken/turkey/steak.

A handful of nuts is a good snack, and will keep your stomach content.

Things to be avoided:
Bread - if you can't avoid it, go for wholemeal and fresh. Avoid white like the plague.
Pasta.
An excess of fruit (juice or fresh fruit) - these are rammed full of sugar even though they're natural. Complex carbs and protein sources are better for you.
Milk. Even in teas and coffees, the calories rack up.
Crisp - there is no nutrition to have here.
Takeaways - cooked in horrible oils, MSG, water retention, skimpy protein portions; why do it to yourself?
Bacon - It's not terrible but on a diet it's a lot of calories which could go in to a much bigger portion of cleaner food.
Chocolate bars - grab a handful of nuts if you really have to (no not from your trousers)

Things to remember:
Dietary fat is not bad! It will not turn to fat! It can be used as energy! The body craves it! Many people have a phobia and instead opt for fat free options. What do you think they replace the fat with? That's right, rammed full of sugar. That "healthy" fat free yogurt you're snacking on is going to cause a hell of an insulin spike, and make you feel hungrier in half hours time. Why not opt for some oats instead?

Dietary cholesterol is not going to turn you in to a walking heart attack. Stick to eggs, even try having 3 whole eggs and two egg whites in scrambled eggs or an omelet.

Keep your calories under control! For the first week or two, you're going to need to record everything. That glass of apple juice, those three milky coffees (God I hope you don't put sugar in there! ;)), that apple after the team meeting which is healthy - surely it wont affect your diet. All these things mount up and if you're not in control of it, you'll fail your targets. Download MyFitnessPal on your phone, it's a brilliant (and free) app where you can add practically any food you'll find in a supermarket and it'll total up your diet :)

oh and find a cereal you like that's not full of junk

Cereals as a whole are generally full of junk, even the ones marketed as being healthy. If you want that sort of thing for breakfast porridge is your friend. Bigger and wholer the oats are the better. Any sort of fruit and berries added for extra flavour.

I've been there and done it. Was 17 stone, now under 12. It's all about your food choices though. You can't out exercise a bad diet. Making lifestyle changes that you will stick with, not fad dieting is absolutely key.

Best of luck!

This is my food and drink intake today.

Brekkie - glass of apple juice
Lunch - Pot noodle lol
Dinner - Cod fillet and new potatoes
2 Cans of Coke throughout the day
Bottle of water for my run
Apple when I got back from my run.

I do like the Morrision porriidge pots, but I dont like the Sainsburys versions.

So many things I need to learn, I thought cornflakes would be great!

meat - fish or white meat is good, I like little tins of mackerel on toast :)

water - yeh add whatever flavour you want, it's still mostly water and a ton better than coke or beer :)

myfitnesspal is depressing, but is a good way to learn what foods contain what calories... only gotta use it for a few weeks to get an idea of your bad habits, then change those habits

I've also pre-booked a gym trial day for Thursday too, went tonight before the run, but they dont accept on the door trials so had to book one. If I like the place I will sign up.

Are strawberries and green grapes good or bad?

Also I be enjoy chilli pestachio nuts. Good or bad?

Cereal?

Dude, do some research it's terrible for you. Well most of it is anyway, why anyone would eat it anyway is mental. It's not good for you and you can eat much healthier and tastier!

Eggs and bacon for example, an ommelete or even forget that you need breakfast, lunch and dinner and just eat 3 meals of whatever you want as long as it's healthy and full of useless calories.
