It's not their place to do it. If there is a crime arrest.

There is dignity in silence, especially for an authority organisation.

The police used to be above all this stuff. That's why people respected them. Now they are verbally scrapping in public with media organisations.

Im probably going to get so much flack for this but what the hell lets give it a punt..

Yes the article is missleading. However the police by there inaction have allowed other sites to be be vandalised by these protests, we have the situation of the centotapth and Churchil statue and others now having to be surrounded by 6ft deep crash barriers to keep these protesters away from them.

Protesters that are the usual rent a mob suspects with there socialist worker supplied placards that just love cosplaying as palestinians every weekend in there masks and headscarves, the same rent a mob ones that if they are asked if they want to take in a refugee when they are out protesting ''refugees welcome'' suddenly don't have room in there house for one

I have zero time for these people and now zero respect for the police that turn a blind eye to it every weekend.

2nd point.. It should be illegal for anyone paid from the public purse. politicians .... police etc to turn off replies to social media accounts. They are paid by us the public so therefore they are answerable to us the public if they don't like the replies they are getting then tough luck toughen up do what the public is asking you to do or go find another proffesion.

As was made clear in the article (last paragraph of course) and the message from the Police on Twitter, it was done by the Royal Parks as a matter of course during expected protests / events. It's not the first time they've done it, won't be the last - and clearly not the only memorial they do it to. Are we really that suprised that memorials have to be protected in this day and age (of all sorts and types). Should it have to happen, of course not, but this is clearly not isolated and not specifically only because of Israel or Jews.

I know the Police have issues but they really can't do the right thing by everyone's viewpoint right now.

I have no issue at all with them responding to the Mail's lies. They are deliberately lieing / distorting the truth and it's damaging the public's trust even further. If we had a media regulator that bothered to do it's job maybe they wouldn't have to feel they needed to correct the record.

Twitter is decending into a pit after Elon's obsession with absolute free speach and turning to the right anyway.

Still a policing issue though - why did the park authorities cover it up? Because we've had ongoing issues with protests that the met isn't dealing with.

Are we now expecting the police stop every instance of graffiti?

Perhaps everyone should be microchipped and if they go outside their 'area' they're arrested.

Quite aware.

Even if the police weren't being softly softly (partly I think because the government has ****** up the prison system) they still aren't omnipotent or omnipresent so naturally there will always be instances they cannot physically attend in time so the organisation that covered up the memorial still has incentive to do so.

No one said they were omnipresent - this isn't some binary situation where either they must be omnipresent or perhaps they should do nothing. I'm sure there's some risk of antisemitic graffiti in normal times too but the point is that there's been some rather obvious failings by the police here.

Or that it's much easier to take a cheap and quick step to protect an inanimate object before anything happens, than it is to try and protect it after some idiot does something (and then try and make good any damage later).

The Police don't have the resources to station a cordon of officers around every statue or monument before every protest, and covering them up in advance of potential issues has IIRC been something that has been done for decades with certain monuments/statues.

The thing is the "official" pro Palestine protests are far less likely to cause a problem than many other protests, because the people organising them don't want the bad PR of any issues, which is also part of the reason the police tend to be attending them in lower numbers than some protests where they know the "organisers" either don't care about any damage or are actively looking forward to the chance for it.

then ban the damn marches if they aren't safe....

why doesn't the gov offer to relocate them all to Gaza since they want to live there so much.

anyone who doesn't identify firstly as British should be got rid of...

Our countries literally been destroyed in about 70 years by greedy politicians trying to farm kudos on the world stage.... importing one problem after another
