Their lawyers will be trawling every statement they have made recently and at the time of the London hearings for defamatory or false statements by reporters, talking heads on their various platforms.

Can they? If the news organisations were just reporting on a story surely they are protected under the 1st amendment? Depp has done well to win considering how high the bar is set in the US and that he's a public figure which sets the bar even higher. I'm glad he's won but proving those organisations knew what they were publishing was false and published it anyway with malice will take some doing.
