This might not be a good idea but i'll ask anyhow..

ooh... Steam profile says i've played 14.4 hours in the past two weeks, the boy has played quite a few of these hours.. this week played 1 - 2 hours PS3 monday evening, played around half hour for a beyond souls demo last night, 10 mins before leaving for work this morning same demo to show the missus, she liked it.

I reckon on average 10 hours a week? Maybe? Some weeks no hours at all if i've got other stuff on, last of us meant I hammered it for a week, but generally i'd say 10 hours ?? Not a lot is it.

Nah, that's not addicted. If so, then I am too and my Mrs seems pretty cool with it lol.

I play way more than that a week, and I wouldn't say I'm addicted. I just enjoy gaming. Some people are happy to sit and watch TV all night. I'd rather play a game as I find it more enjoyable. I can and do go through periods though where I find I'm not in the mood to game much, as I reckon most people do.

Same here, my girlfriend will sit (once the kids are in bed) from 8 until 10/10:30 and watch TV and not think anything of it. I want to play games and I'm sad/ a geek.

Gaming is just my hobby.

Show them this image.

Thing is with mine, I'm sure her attitude will change, she enjoys games, she spends an afternoon on our sons 3DS on Animal Crossing and wants one for Christmas (along with Professor Leyton games), so I think her mindset is changing for the positive and we can have a happy gaming house hold.

Yeah her own brother. He clocks up on average 133 hours every two weeks on Steam alone..

Then he games on his PS3 for fifa 13/14, crazy.

I only two weeks ago showed her my steam profile and his, she was just floored. then I said, who plays too many video games?

Yeah, really, 10 hours is nothing. I play way more than that, and from sounds of it my missus, though she takes issue with it from time to time, is more relaxed about it than yours.

One of the things that probably helps me is that I got her into wow years ago when we met, and she hardcored that with me. We've both quit wow now, and she doesn't really game anymore, but I think it helps her see things from my perspective.

"Just, on this, boss! WAIT!" She gets that. :p

My wife is actually quite awesome in respect to my gaming at times. I remember when I was playing one of the Fallout 3 DLCs (The Pitt), where you have to collect 100 Iron Ingots for an achievement and some items. I had a printed off list that took you through getting all 100 as quickly and efficiently as possible. She sat with me and read the list to me to make it easier :)

My girlfriend started to say stuff like that I'm a big kid and sad that I still play games at my age (33) when we first met, she would say it has a joke first then it started to happen more frequently so I nipped that in the bud before it got worse.

Told her that its my hobby and I rather do that than watch all the depressing soaps and the reality TV **** she watches. Never heard a word off her after I said that. She Even offered to buy me one of the next gen consoles for Christmas :)

For me, playing a game in the evening is a really good way to wind down after a mentally challenging day at work. The missus doesn't seem to mind it, though she prefers me to be in the same room, so we bought a new laptop (shared) that's not too shabby for gaming. Sometimes I'll break out the PS3 but only when there's nothing she wants to watch on TV, and I'll prefer games that I can include her in (e.g. Beyond: Two Souls should be good).

Okay spill the beans, which mail order site did you buy her from :p

lol yeah I got a really expensive gaming laptop and even a desk and monitor but most of the time I sit in the same room on the sofa with the laptop on, I reckon beyond two souls will be a good game to play together... she didn't seem to mind heavy rain.

My gf is/was the same; "games are for kids", "why don't you do something productive", etc. I showed her some of the more "mature" games - Fallout 3, GTA, Far Cry 3, TLOU, etc. and asked her if she'd be happy with her kid playing them, and what exactly "productive" I should be doing when she's vegetating in front of Britain's got the Coronation Xfactor Kardashian Talent Street.

She seems to have shut up about it since then! She actually enjoyed watching me play through Heavy Rain and TLOU, and I got her into playing racing games like NFS and GT5 (she's better than me at GT5, but don't tell her, I'll never hear the end of it!!) She'll now give up the main TV if there's nothing particular on.

Mine has no problem with me gaming, except that she just "acts like a woman" when it comes to me doing so. For example:

- She's watching some awful crap on TV, so I stick my headphones on and get to gaming on the laptop (which is fine in her eyes, because we're still in the same room together). Suddenly she wants to talk to me about something/everything.

- The TV has been on, with nothing but absolute drivel on a random channel running for the past 45 minutes while she's being browsing the internet on her laptop, or messing about on her phone texting people etc. So I stick on the Xbox/PS3. All of a sudden she was watching TV.

Just a case of laying down the law. I have no interest in nonsense television, and if she needs "background noise" while she does something totally unrelated, she can put a pair of headphones on. I'm using the TV. Simple as.

Hahaha, I like your attitude. That **** would drive me insane! :p

I hardly use the main TV. I got tired of bickering over it, and just went and purchased a 40" smart TV for the bedroom. It works superb at 1080p for PC gaming, PS3 and netflix and I also got a Sky HD box attached to it, just the basic channels to save costs.

Works fine, I sit on the bed, play a few games, watch a movie or something whilst she is watching drivel and hasn't noticed i've disappeared from the room.

Classic thing with my missus is she'll be glued to the phone, facebook, internet shopping or some random rubbish, I as much as touch the remote, drops the phone, has a huge go at me, and I just back off as its quicker and easier...

but same scenario and I instead say, off to get a drink, go upstairs and I can watch an entire movie before she realised.. just WTF? I've played the entire of Last of Us on a 40" TV mounted on the bedroom wall, sat on the bed, few pillows up against the headboard and she's hardly noticed sometimes, then other times - wooah..!! hell broke out. Biggest issue i've got is this darn 10pm bedtime..

Which she is now finally leaving me alone about.

Remember when she was up the duff, she'd go to bed at 8pm, i'd sit on the bed in our old house without a TV in the room on a really old Dell Studio XP laptop, playing BF3 with headphones on whilst she slept. It was crazy, but by 10pm I'd managed to sneak back downstairs and play some PS3. It was just unreal.

sometimes, i'd say I was working late and stop behind and play a few steam games, it was easier then bickering with her.. She got quite violent a few times. Accusations of being a poor boyfriend, bad dad etc.. didn't make me want to be with her for some time, thankfully those days are now over..

Its been great writing this, its good to read others have had to try and balance gaming with their missus. women eh?

Exactly what I did, I showed her The Last of Us and she couldn't believe what games are like these days. She do try and show a bit of an interest now and again.

We still have me and her time so she's happy now lol.

Have to admit, my missus was a bit shocked at beyond two souls this morning.. she said its like a movie, but you play the movie.

She isn't the biggest movie fan, but was very impressed with Beyond Two souls. I'm getting a copy even though the game got mixed reviews.

I do remember her liking Heavy Rain. I'll have to show her the last of us. i'm sure uncharted 2/3 would catch her attention..

Games aren't like they used to be. Its not space invaders or pointless pac man, even though pac man was great fun.. Heck, pac man had a special edition on steam while back lol

Reading this thinking I must be a bloke! I've always been a gamer, my bf doesn't mind, he plays too if its Gears, Halo or anything co-op with me but will sit and watch me playing single player games too and I'll do the same with him.

Maybe if you actually tried to get her into gaming? Invite her to play something. Lego games are good for people that don't play much...

I don't really understand the mentality of other women at all! How is faming not fun?!

I have a wife and kid (aged 11).

Luckily my wife likes playing the Lego games on Xbox. But if she is not gaming (and hasnt for a while) then she has plenty of other stuff to keep her interested - cooking, make-up, surfing for clothes etc, so has plenty of hobbies.

I normally stay up late to play Xbox, can be on from 10-1 no probs, getting up at 6.45am next morning. Mrs rarely complains, unless I am looking knackered. But like the OP, I can function on 6hrs sleep no probs.

But we also ensure we have "us" time, whether it being watching telly (we both love NFL), going out for a meal etc....

Personally I reckon your wife wants you to be like her and head to bed at 10...

I have only ever had one problem with the Mrs regarding games and that is when I used to stay up to 3-4 at the weekend when grinding Jedi in SWG ;)

Lastly, my wife quite likes to watch me play games, depending on which one (good story games). We used to sit and play Resident Evil together (I played, she watched and helped with puzzles) back in the day. She also quite likes Rockband\Guitar Hero.

:D

She is rather cool. I forgot to mention she's buying Lego Marvel for the Xbox One because she likes the look of it and loves all the Lego games. Suits me as I quite fancied it myself, but it's one less game I have to pay for :D
