Does it apply to all models (elite, pro, arcade) as long as you can get a 175w version?

Talking to my local store with the purple logo about trading in my launch console when i get it back from the repairer (have had to send it off again after a week) and they seem to think that all models are now much more reliable and they get very few new models returned.

It's a busy store too, in the centre of Ipswich.

Thanks in advance from a thoroughly hacked off xbox gamer.

There can't be any harm in getting the new one if you have the choice (especially if you can wangle it for free).

The new ones have not been around noway near long enough compared to the previous revision was "admitted" to have flaws. But early anecdotal evidence implies shops seem to get less returns. (Although you could argue that more people are used to using the MS warranty and bypass the shop, although I imagine most people still return to shops in the first few monthsish)

It will definitely be more reliable than your old one (as it is implied that one has "re-broken" on you), and comes with the same 3 year warranty, so it's win win, depending on how much you have to pay difference.

I don't think anyone here has yet had a newer model die, have they? Most people I know in real life that wanted a 360 have one and so have the old type. Sadly I don't know anyone with a newer version apart from on these boards.

You shouldn't have said that! Around here people will try to lynch you for saying such things. It's impossible that Microsoft could have improved their consoles reliability .

Yes, the new consoles are a lot more reliable.

Yes, I believe Metalface Mark had an Elite die in less than an hour.

Always the cynic!! Why would anyone buy a new model 360 and claim it boke? (Dare I ask? :))

Who says they have bought it? easy to claim things to make it look worse than it is, we know why :) Like most polls on the 360 were hijacked with fake votes by the Sony camp ;)

Might as well give names if you're trying to make out that Sony 'fans' have rigged past 360 reliability polls. I assume you would have names in mind (and evidence) to make you think this in the first place.

Yeah but anyone can say that about any console. It's a cop out arguement, without proof.

And you could just as easily say there were fake votes from 360 'fans', it's all meaningless without anything to back it up.

What is for certain is that the 360 at least previously had an absolutely abysmal failure rate. I can't take anyone seriously when they try and make out it's anything but a design flaw that caused this.

Things appear to have improved, possibly by a considerable margin. Let's hope that turns out to be the case in the long run.

well, the ammount of "my 360 has died" threads have really died down since the newer 175watt versions....whether thats just cos people are getting tired of posting and reading them i dont know? lol i think there was at least 4-5 different ones on the first page quite a while ago

No denying the 360 has problems and probably still has, but if you have a chance at swapping a launch day one for the newer 175watt ones then you'd be silly not to unless it was costing an arm and a leg! at the very least you have what seems to be less chance of it RROD-ing and you get another years warranty on it that will cover everything, plus an extra 2 years for the RROD problem if it should happen

agree with you 100% cokecan.

i can trade in my old launch console for £140 and my wife is letting me use part of her long service award that's she due to pay the balance so that'll do me.

i'll get a much more reliable console and i'll be able to play on it without sitting there constantly fretting that it's going to go wrong. peace of mind is worth a lot to me.

Ive no axe to grind against microsoft, my initial launch day console lasted till a few months after i sold it, and my current one is going strong, albeit its only 5 months old.

As i said before i was actually quite pleased it broke, as after buying it and seeing that my vga looked better than hdmi, it wasnt really offering me anything, other than a cooler look and a bigger hard drive id never fill.

lol i've given up caring about mine now. its tried to die on me once with RROD (conviently after the warranty was up and a few weeks before MS announced the extended warranty!). So I ripped it appart, heatsinks and the lot came off, stuck some arctic silver 5 on it, re-applied the heatsinks and it's been working fine ever since :)

if it tries to brick it again it will no doubt be in pieces again! :)
