Those 'Sad Days' in your Computer Owning/Gaming Life.

Buying BF2142 thinking that it would be good after playing most of the Battlefield games and enjoying them. Yes, it sucks and yes I bought the Northern Strike expansion yesterday for 2142 after digging it out again as I had reverted back to BF2 for the last couple of months. I'm just a sucker for EA's unfinished products, especially the Betafield series :)

Selling Space Station: Silicon Valley on the N64 to my cousin, and then a year later, finding out he'd given his N64 away, right as I was about to ask him if I could buy it back.

That was an awesome game :(

The expansion "Ultima Online: Renaissance" and publishes thereafter that changed PvP and split the playerbase. Completely destroyed the best MMO there ever was and will be.

Very sad days indeed. :o

Bought a 3dfx voodoo card and excitedly took it home on a Saturday evening to get up and running with quake.

Early Sunday morning having tried everything its still not working - drivers not compatible with windows 95 ? or 98 I cant remember now. Dazed, tired and dejected I try an fdisk command at which point I lost 30gigs of valuable data dating back to the very early 90s.

I didn't know when to stop did I ? but learnt my lesson well. I even had a couple of tears rolling down my cheeks.

Throwing my old Amiga 1200 away, along with a GVP accelerator and boxes full of games... because I didn't have the space. Now I really want it back :(

 You're going to burn in hell! :( :o

Halo 2.

A few of my games won't run on xp, like the older command and conquer games and interstate 76, what a game! I'm thinking when i've got some money to spare i might build an older 95/98 system just to play these again. Also had a Football manager game explode in my cd drive taking out my cd drive as well. Not only did it scare the hell out of me, but i couldn't afford at the time to get a new cd drive :(

Probably when I sold my Amiga 1200 to get my first PC - a Viglen Pentium 120. Should have kept it. :(
Similar to me... thought console gaming was cool and I swapped my Atari ST with all the games for a Megadrive with only a handful of games. I really dunno what I was thinking that day. :(

Luckily LGD and STeem has made things slightly better.

The day that the "combat upgrade" was pushed to the Star Wars Galaxies live servers.

Almost. NGE destroyed the game. CU was at least playable and more balanced than pre-cu. So my worst day was when NGE destroyed the best game ever made. :(

Typing in pages of programming ( in Basic ) from a ZX Speccy magazine to find it didn't work ! ( They would usually apologise and correct it next issue/month )

Waiting about 8 years ( well it seemed like that ) to cassette load a game , only to knock the table at the last minute and have to start all over again.

And ,too many to mention , beer related mis-saves after playing the game of your life, only to wake up with no saved games and a hangover.

Ahh, the joys of computers :D

CU was when I quit and the final straw for me. ;) No I was not combat medic rifleman either. :p

Some friends urged me to come back and try the NGE around Nov/Dec when it came out, unsubscribed again within about fifteen minutes. Last time I take a chance like that again, especially where SOE are concerned.

Just to emphasise: CU was awful, ruined the game entirely. :p

When I was young and my dad had a pentium 1 75mhz PC, a friend bought over this game called "Doom" and I installed it and played through it only to find it was actually a demo!

Or when I was playing deus ex for the first time I got to this bit where you have to come out of an elevator and 2 mad guys RUN at you with explosives and stuff, but found that after they do that the game crashes. Never got further than that, never worked out why it was doing that!

when i was just using quick saves in half life and i got to zen world and pressed save instead of load just as i was falling off a cliff. ******* great!

Start the game with the parameter -console, which makes the start command look
like:

...:\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe -applaunch 220 -console

This makes the game start with a popped up console where you have to type in

sv_cheats 1

to enable the cheat mode. Now you can type in any of the commands below or
activate the console in the game with [~] and type in any commands when needed
in the game.

sv_unlockedchapters xx

xx being the level you wish to unlock to. 15 being all levels :)

Can't you right click on the Icon>compatibility then change the game to run in compatibility mode for the older operating systems.

I've tried that and a few other things, patches that are supposed to make it work, but sp2 is so annoying if you have older games that you want to play.

Having spent 4 years in quake 3 to get to play in one of the top 3wave clans to only have it fall apart after 2 seasons due to WoW coming and clannies not playing quake anymore..... although i have to admit i was one of them, in fact i was already in another mmo at the time (knightOnline) which i also stopped to play WoW......

......Speaking of WoW, spending almost 2 years getting the whole 8/8 T1 and T2 sets with good items etc and then the TBC patch which gave good items to everyone....still playing though.

....oh and Unreal 2 was a let down :(

when i didnt have cable modem my phone bills was 300+ pounds , at the time i was told i was on free interent like some 0800 number on dialup and used it for a whole month , shocking when i got the bill , all this was on quake 3 ctf online and websites
