Three weeks of hard work

Good to see another Westfield owner on here!

Re the Radiator St0rmer66: There is a mesh that goes at the front of the nosecone, and it's a real PITA to fit so most builders leave it to the end!

Re reverse gear: Lots of competition classes require a reverse system that "Can move the vehicle on level ground" so many competitors ditch the heavy reverse gearbox and replace it with an lightweight electric reverse (which would be completely useless on a hill but complies with the regs ;))

Nice build there - and nice burnt orange colour.

Building a Westfield SDV here myself

It's nice to see ANOTHER Westfield owner on here -we'll be needing our own forum soon :-)

@ penski - somehow I think that Westfield will be much quicker than 90% of the car engined varieties :-)

Yep, the BEC guys can give most of the CEC guys a nasty surprise! Shame that lots of the bike boys struggle to meet the track noise limits though :(

@OP: Good choice of wheels and tyres. You gone for the Soft's or Supersoft's?

Anyone here going to Eurofest at Combe on 6th September? Going to be our first time out since the engine was rebuilt.......... 2lt NA Zetec (competes as a 1998) BHP in the 240's and weighs 530kg :D (Shame Dad won't let me drive it yet :()

Yup - drove a 'bua engined Westy when I was trying to figuire out what to build - went like stink but was a pita to drive on the road with the sequential box - not what I was looking for. however, if I was building a track orientated car, I'd probably lean towards a BEC.

Keep us updated on the build - lots of photos!

Couple of weeks to go until my SVA - getting nervous now!

Update

I didnt realise I had not updated this for a while so here are some pics of the current progress.

I have mainly been fitting the body and it has taken me ages to get it "right"

I have been putting off cutting the hole in the body for the exhaust for ages as it was such a complicated shape but once I started it turned out ok :D

Did some work on this little beauty earlier in the week too, some of you might recognise it although it has a different registration now.

I dont see it being a problem with a little bit of forward thinking. Of course you'll get in a situation at some point where you'll have to get out of the car and push it but I hardly see it being a regular event.

How about every time you need to park in a car park? BEC's are great, but lack of reverse would be a royal PITA for me unless it's a track only toy.

I think people are missing the point here with the reverse issue.

The car is a toy which will be used for track work and sunny days.

I wont be popping to the supermarket or doing my Xmas shopping in it lol.If I do need to reverse anywhere it wont be an issue to push it around.

Done a little bit more to the car.

Dry sump is fully plumbed in now,as is the cooling system.

Added a bit of scaffolding to the car as well now :D

Also made a start on the paddle shift I think you can just make it out in this picture

you not thought about a chain quaife differential with reverse built in ? nice and light , ive got one on the trike and it works well
and what ya doing about the ram air ? wont you lose bhp without it

My uncles got an R1 powered version, top speed of about 125mph but gets there very quickly!

Also got paddle shift but he went with the reverse gearbox, weighs a bit more but you just never know when you may need it and you'd look a right pleb having to get out and push you car backwards :D

I know his failed on a switch on the dash because it was pointy, it may hurt someone if they get hit and fell into the car! SVA is quite tight with its rules!
