Throw away your expensive GPU's...

I actually like FF13, despite the hate it got.
Downloading it now, will get the downsampling tool on it (hopefully it works) as i really do want to play it, i'll forgive SE later when they release F15 :D

I ended up really enjoying it too. Some of the fights after the main game finishes can be very challenging. Would like to play it again just to do them but I don't know if I can be bothered to play the whole game again.

Final Fantasy XIII is a previous generation game which was developed at 720p.

I imagine it's a massive amount of work to re-do the entire game at 1080p resolutions?

Tbh, a port is a port, if they don't want to do anything special with their game, so be it - at least they are making the game available to PC users so they don't have to invest in a £300 piece of hardware which they will barely use.

PCs are for spreadsheets.

With the new generation of consoles being more powerful than a top of the range gaming PC - at least for the next few years - why wouldn't you buy a PS4, or even better, an X-1?

It's also fair to say that every FF after 9 has been better and more amazing than the last. With non-linear gameplay, exciting stories, and characters that are works of sheer literary genius. Why would you want to miss out on these incredible games by boycotting them, or playing them on a glorified calculator?

Do yourself a favour and get the real experience on a real gaming platform - a console.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to check how my Ubisoft shares are doing.

Indeed PCs are for spreadsheets as the top of the range consoles are not capable of running one.

As to how powerful the latest consoles are, remember they use AMD CPUs lol.:D:p:D:p:D:p

If you are talking about re-doing all the textures in HD yes that's work, but it has nothing to do with a game being in 720p or 1080p, in most cases the same textures would be used, changing the resolution is a piece of cake for developers.

A great example is World of Warcraft, in 2004 Blizzard were probably not expecting anyone to want to run the game higher than 1280x1024, but that didn't make them lock the res, and as a result the game ran fine in 1080p and today 4K without issue.

Locking the res is literally just that, imposing an artificial limit on the engine to stop it doing something it could with ease. In this case it appears developers don't want console gamers to realise how inferior their machines are so they are limiting the PC versions.

nuff LOLZ.

1. At the end of the day you should be thankful they even did a PC version.

2. Graphics do not a good game make. If a game is good enough it doesn't matter what resolution it runs at nor the frame rate.

A game is not entirely created to look good. Usually when they are (Crysis 3) they are arse. If a game looks bad and plays bad? it's a bad game.

Looking at both of these titles I fail to see why they need to be cutting edge graphically to be good. FF has been around for years, no one complained on the SNES back then (SFII for example was much better looking) and Evil Within seems to be some sort of sneak game so I don't see why it needs to run like chit off a shovel.

Yeah it's a tiny bit disappointing but at the end of the day at least we get a go.

Final fantasy games have never appealed to me. They just look boring.

Disappointed in Bethesda tbh, I wanted to buy Evil within but after this load of poo they have tried to serve us I certainly won't be buying it until the issues are fixed.

Did Ubisoft secretly purchase Bethesda or something?

FF games have changed since IX - X. X was a big change, but it's been downhill since. XIII is barely even a FF game IMO and XV looks even worse.

Evil Within isn't really locked down. Just a simple unlock with a console command.

Yeah but its not supported so I would imagine a buggy piece of ****.

also, graphics are the LEAST of your worries with Final Fantasy 13 lol

Story is pretty whack, and gameplay left me struggling to keep my eyes open.

Entire game can be completed by spamming X with "auto" battle system.

It was absolutely terrible imo compared to previous titles in the series, Final Fantasy hasn't been any good since X tbh.

IIRC after chapter 9 it opens up, get's a lot more fun from there on out. I dumped well over 100hrs into it on the PS3 to plat the game, failed :D Pretty certain i need 1 more achievement :(

13-2 and LR though, ergh. No thanks, terrible. FF14 was/is amaze, started playing that again and on a much more addictive scale. FF15 looks interesting :p

Is FF13 just released on Pc now? I completed this back in 2010 on PS3. It only really starts to become a good game near the end. I never got round to part 2 which might have been better. While i enjoyed it it's not a patch on FF7/8.

Agreed 720p looks awesome!

..on my phone not however on my 32" monitor or 50" smart TV, 720p is 10yr* old tech and they can only run it at 30fps, maybe they should use G-Sync to stop tearing at higher fps.....oh wait AMD have a console clean sweep so they can't =p

*don't quote me on this

Yeah, I mean they could have just decided they didn't want the money. The is no excuse for doing a second rate job if you're still charging full price.

2. Graphics do not a good game make. If a game is good enough it doesn't matter what resolution it runs at nor the frame rate.

But it helps, Halo PC was the same game as the Xbox version just with terrible performance, and that's why it sucked, not because it was bad but because it very easy could have been awesome.

The is a difference between being cutting edge and lacking basic functionality.

FF has been around for years, no one complained on the SNES back then (SFII for example was much better looking)

People in the early nineties didn't complain about early 90's graphics? :O

Seriously SF2 had 8 backgrounds, 8 characters and 4 bosses, of course it looked better than an RPG, that's like saying UT2004 looked better than WoW despite coming out the same year.

Yeah it's a tiny bit disappointing but at the end of the day at least we get a go.

Lazy developers missing out basic functionality from games is not just tiny.

Yes, was released yesterday and cost $15. I think ALXAndy hit it on the nail and better to have it, even like this than not. If they brought some other exclusives like TLOU to PC, I would be over the moon and happily take it as it is.

It depends what you mean by full price. Greg paid $15 for FF13 and i paid around £45 on the console back in the day. You will find on the PC you get the games cheaper than what you will on the console and most of the time get better graphic's. It would seem the console gamers really pay full price while PC gamers for the most part don't.

It's probably more to do with the second hand market is larger on consoles than PC. I've not bought a physical copy of a PC game in yonks, yet most console games are still packaged up, not sure what the next gen has done to curb second hand sales?

Point being Greg is that these consoles should be capable themselves of a lot more than 720p/30fps especially when these consoles are meant to have a 5-7yr life span. Triple A games are all about the bling and thats how they justify the pricing and to say these games run perfectly well at 30fps is a total lie. To me it just looks like they making these games with the previous generations coding to save but charge us full wack.

I don't have a single Physical copy of a game on my PS4. I pretty much treat it like i do steam on my PC. If you want a Physical copy though nothing is different from the ps3. You can still trade in games for others to pick up second hand. Microsoft tried to stop this which was the first nail in the coffin for the Xboxone. They back tracked pretty fast but they had already lost a lot of sales even before launch.
