Thunderstorms - 2017

A few good rumbles of thunder in North Kent, started at approx 1.30 and think lasted about a hr so.

Well this is brightening up my night shift in more ways than one! Seems to be on top and all around us. Saw it approaching from the Southampton area and it finally got to us at 1am and still hasn't left. A great thing to watch & see, although you've seen them before you can never seem to get tired of a thunder storm.

I was sat on Lee-on Solent beach (Just past Fareham) from 9 til just after midnight. We were watching the storm over the isle of Wight and Portsmouth, so this was probably same storm as you. Such consistently bright flashes! nevere seen anything like it in England before; only thing that could compare was a tropical storm in Dominican Republic, but that didn't last over 3 hours:eek: Generally very bright flashes across the sky, with the odd fork, however there were 4 or 5 incredible forks that stretched across the sky near to us. Truly breathtaking sight. There was also one i think within a mile of us over the coast which was A, blinding, and B, ******* loud :p Scared us a little bit :D So glad i got to watch it :)

Possibly the biggest storm I've ever seen last night.

I was driving from Huntingdon to MK last night and saw a lot of big flashes lighting up the whole sky, was pretty cool. I caught an impressive strike on my dash cam. The rain was pretty heavy, was like driving down a river.

Dereham Norfolk seemed to go on all night, ending up with what sounded like Shell fire about 5am, had dog sleeping on my feet and the cat on my head most of the night as they were terrified

Had I think the sum total of 3 thunder claps here over night but they were big ones - however did get some pretty insane hail for about half an hour.

Biggest thunder storm I have ever witnessed I think last night. Literally flashes of lightning every few seconds for at least an hour, probably more.

Sky's darkening here near Liverpool, and I can see from live lightning trackers that it's inching closer and closer over North Wales and out over Liverpool Bay. Here's to hoping we get a good storm soon. :)

Edit: Storm's moving north but not east as it needs to to pass overhead it seems, bugger. :(

I can still remember a spectacular thunderstorm looking out over the North Wales coast from Wirral in ~1988, a mix of sheet and fork lightening for some time, never seen anything quite so crazy since!

Feels like it could storm again unfortunately nothing on lightning maps that was a cracker last night, If I was on the coast I would drive down to the cliffs and watch it come in that storm looked huge coming across the english channel
