Mental storm overnight here. Random bucket in garden rain-o-meter shows about 15cm in what must have been less than 1hr.

Similar in South Yorkshire. First thunder clap we heard was directly overhead and shook the house & scared my 4yr old to death to the point that we couldn't get him to go back in his own bed. He was glued to me till 7 this morning.
Just north of Cambridge here - biggest storm I've seen in a long while, absolutely mental rain. Thunder and lighting some way away judging from the sound and I guess about 0300 last night. 4 year old charging round the house yelling 'YAY, FIREWORKS'. Took ages to get him back to bed.

15 miles from Cambridge ( in haverhill ) a bolt must have struck within a few 100m of our house, at 1:30am. it sounded like a bomb had gone off and the flash and bang were indistinguishable from each other.
add to that rain like I have only ever seen before in the tropics.
my car was charging and I felt it wise to unplug. in 30 seconds outside I was so wet I may as well have jumped in a lake
also sone water got in through the roof in our conservatory. not much thankfully but still.......

On the plus side, my car was covered in grime and Saharan dust and the storm has rinsed it very clean indeed

A few rumbles in last few minutes, https://www.lightningmaps.org/ suggests just approaching Southampton, sky gone very dark and now tipping it down!

Yea pretty good thunderstorm Cambridgeshire fens at the moment, was out this evening driving back on flooded roads was good fun.
