Thunderstorms

Woke up at 2am to an explosion in the road nextyto us, lightning hit a pole and net went down

It was loud and bright!

Daaaan in saaaarf East London, we had a short lived climax of lightening and thunder - but it went as quickly as it came. Loud enough to wake me up though.

Posted one of these on the gif thread, but may as well post them all here. Taken last night.

They're amazing.

I was woken at 5:45 this morning but didn't get up to have a look outside. wish I had done now.

I didn't cycle in to work as I was under the illusion that things were 'going to get real' in my part of the world.

Four miserable little rumbles of thunder and a couple of quick early downpours and now it's bone dry and bright again.

The Met Office nails it once more. :(

Why do we use the word thunder? Without lighting there is no thunder? So surely more sensible just to only say lighting?

Had about an hours worth of "danger close" thunder and lightning last night waking me up at 3/4am. Was very pretty and very loud with some bursts of heavy rain.

More thunderstorms is heading UK from south of Spain and France next month. The storms could be a biggest one than today because of largest cell across Spain & France next month with hot humid air pushing upward while UK coolest air pushing southward from North of UK.

Most pathetic thunderstorm last night here, lasted about 30 mins, and only about 6-7 lightning/thunder combo's, apparently though according to my friends the lightning was going on for an hour or 2 with no thunder.

Had a wicked one here earlier, even landed near my unit.
Destroyed my router.
PC.
Printer.

I guess OCUK have at least made a bit of money out of this little mishap!

Havent really seen any thunderstorms, lightening down here in London myself and ive been here near on 20 yrs now.

Growing up in Canada, mother of god we used to get some tremendous lightening and thunderstorms. I remember one lightening strike that when it hit, counted it to be about a mile away was so brutal it actually shook the house:eek:. But i was in Canada last summer and we got some really hot, humid weather...hit about 38c in the day but late evening i was sat outside my brothers house having a cig and what a lightening and thunderstorm turned up...was pure awesomeness.

What made you move to the UK :(

I hear what you're saying :D, but sometimes i have just heard distant thunder and not seen any lightning, so some might say "i hear thunder", lol.

The forecaster always got it wrong kept saying "Thunder", "Storm", "Thundery Rain", "Thundery Showers", and even "Thundery Downpours". :D
