Time for a change I think

Motors really are making spec me threads worthless. Instead of helping the OP, you ignore most of his requirements, single out the one point you can mock, and then make silly assumptions about a car you clearly haven't got a clue about.

The ST170 is particularly bad on fuel, there have been two in the family and my old next door neighbour, and they all encountered similarly poor fuel economy.

The sad fact of Motors is that its become one big willy waving exercise - everyone always trying to show they know more, make someone else look bad, or almost bully someone in to changing their mind from buying the car they want to some placebo value car designated by Motors.

Amen!!!!, couldnt of said it better myself.

Some people on here are genuinely helpful and provide great tips and advice, as you say, others are pretty much just internet bullys looking to bash people. I cant believe some of the crap I got when I started this thread.

Oh well, end result is that I got rid of car that was a money pit and getting worse, drank fuel for fun and cost a lot tax. It was also to small and not that pratical. The new one fixes every issue. The only one I cant be 100% of is the reliability, but then can you ever?, hopefully the warrentee will help out.

Turbo issues aren't common on these - well no more than any other turbo car. You didn't say the mileage, but going to a tdci mondeo because you've had a flywheel issue is sort of lolworthy. However, if it's been replaced recently it will be the revised part which is more robust.

Generally very reliable cars, if it's not been ragged and has been looked after then it should be fine - but if the warranty is that good then its worth seeing if you can extend it for another year if thats how long you're planning to keep it.

If its a euro 3 (vacuum actuated turbo and egr) which it should be at 2004, cap the EGR. The plates are only a few quid and will save you a lot of hassle as well as improving low end pickup a bit.

Got 60k on the clock, and yes the new flywheel is a revised part and is supposed to be far more robust.

Looking at the warentee papaerwork, I can extend it for an extra £120. Think I may do it for piece of mind.

You got any more info on the EGR plates mate?

Well put Mike. This thread was started in good faith looking for advice and, again, it's been spoiled by the usual few.

120 quid for another year? Bite their hand off! If you plan to keep it 2 years, being covered for that long is ideal.

I bought mine off a bloke on www.fordmondeo.org - get yourself registered on there and search around for egr blanking, you can DIY using bean tins and the like but theres a bloke on there who makes the plates, decat pipes and the like

Why is everyone jumping on the fox bandwagon of "LOL 6k to save 100 quid on tax!!?"...it's fairly obvious that's not the only requirement

because everyone kisses his arse. lets be honest. :D

mike also makes a good point, for once :p

Just called the dealer and he said if I come back with the 1 year warrentee, he will cancel it and then give me a 2 year one with exactly the same extras on it for £150.

Seems a bit of a no brainer unless I missing something guys, what you think?

I still don't think his warranty is worth the paper its written on, most are not. I think you'd be better placed organising your own warranty after his expires rather than buying more of his warranty. It will cost you more, but you get what you pay for with warranties. Just my opinion.

After I got over the huge irony of you posting that first sentance, I couldnt help but be amused about the fact that...

...the car the guy is buying IS the 'placebo value car designated by Motors', which kinda makes your point a bit irrelevent :p

He's buying a Mondeo!

The reason why this thread was a bit bumpy to start with Mike is that he posted asking for advice on changing his car to two cars which were out of budget. Once we got that out of the way it seemed to go reasonably smoothly.

It isn't just this thread, and it isn't just you - the above is something I have observed more and more in Motors, with more people getting in on the action.

At least you know why you say the things you do, there are idiots that give the same response regardless of whether its even remotely relevant.

Yup, I refer to them as "the crew" and its the same offenders again and again putting a negative spin on everything, I have learned to laugh at them and take on board the good advice from the people who obviously know what they are talking about and just write off "the crew"

You said it was only £120 to extend? Dealer wants £150? How does that work out?

I was wrong, I thought it was £120, turns out its £150. the AA warrentee I have if I wait till till it expires is currently priced £299 for another year.

Fair enough, but the warranty is a 5 star AA one, with every possible optional extra the car has covered on it. Are the AA warantys notoriusly poor?, sorry I have no idea as ive neve had one before.

'The crew' (Assuming your definition of such is anyone who disagrees with you) called your purchase pretty correctly I thought ;)

Actually I laugh at your assesment of my car over the internets, its comical to me, the very fact that you cannot have a the first clue of what you are talking about as you have not driven or seen the car let alone seen pictures of it yet you pass such a judgement because it needed a battery, a wear and tear part is just, well its hilarious isnt it! The guy on the internets says my car is crap because it needed a battery! I mean come on who in the right mind would even consider taking that drivel on board

Your advice is an instant write off me, I take it with a tub of salt, and thats not my threads either, its pretty much everytime you post, all you seem interested in doing is attempting to wind people up
