Time to call it day ? PC gaming !

SLI/Crossfire is still not that great which is a bit dissappointing given that it is quite a mature technology now.
But don't right off PC gaming, there are some brilliant titles coming out in the next few months.

SLI/CF main technology is at the driver level & if games engines were coded the same as when SLI/CF first came out im sure it would practically be trouble free.

SLI/CF will always be playing catch up as there is no multi gpu coding standard for future titles & the games come first then the drivers adapt to the games.

I know, but it is annoying when you know what has been cut out.
I have yet to unwrap & play GTA San Andreas, i hope i can put the Coffee in it. :D

Lol. Indeed ;)

I agree that it's annoying when you think about 'what could have been'. System Shock 2 and BioShock had huge amounts of content cut out for instance.

Consoles have just as many problems. The slow down/cut content on their games is just as much.

In FF7, Aeris was never meant to die forever, early on in the games creation they wanted you to be able to revive her, but they had to cut it due to time. I actually remember doing half the quest to revive her, but you can't complete (as one example).

Indeed. It's applicable to all games.

I wasn't aware of any quest existing to revive Aeris? Can you elaborate? :)

To be honest I think PC gaming has really gone downhill in the last few years. If you have a quick browse of a certain purple shirted game's stores coming soon list for the 360/PS3/PC they are pretty much identical. Except for maybe upcoming FPS titles such as Far Cry 2 which I'm sure will be better on the PC, I'd rather have the console version of many of the multi-platform games.

I remember a time when there were loads of really great exclusive PC games that weren't on any of the consoles, now there are barely any. By the looks of it the next truly exciting PC game that will only be on the PC is Empire Total War and that isn't coming out until February 2009! Makes spending thousands on PC components and upgrades seem a bit pointless when there aren't the regular stream of exciting PC exclusive titles that there ought to be.

It's not just PC games going to console, console games are going to PC too.

We're entering a truly multi-platform era and I'm not sure why people think that this is a bad thing. In my opinion, all exclusives do is limit your options when it comes to choosing which console you want to buy, or confuse the issue even more if you can't decide between console and PC. More choice is good. The only problem I can see is shoddy ports, but that will always be a problem even if ports are relatively uncommon.

Personally I'd rather the games I want be multi-platform so my platform choice comes down to the hardware. I can honestly say that if the Xbox 360 exclusives I bought the console for were on Playstation 3, I wouldn't have thought twice about getting an Xbox 360 considering it's such a poor piece of machinery.

That said though, all the games I bought an Xbox 360 for in the first place ended up coming to PC, or are coming to PC soon, which is even better for me as I can get rid of the piece of turd. :)

just a moan really, recently i spent about £1000 on upgrades to my pc, Phenom 9950 , 8gb ram 2 4870 cards in crossfire, 1000w psu, all watercoled and the games still play like crap.

example.

stalker clear sky

with setting at high, i get approx 10-20fps @ 1920x1200 that gradually grinds to a halt, crashes to desktop and genrally full of bugs, updated to 1 patch then another now my save games won't load cannot be arsed to start again £30 down the drain.

i searched for "stalker clear sky poor performance" and even wikipedia has a thing all about it, stalkers forum is down all the time also.

most other games crash or don't support crossfire or quad core cpu's.

so i gunna use my uber pc to surf the net and get emails and buy a games console.

even new titles recommended spec is blah blah ... and you need 5 times that to play it, just sick of lazy programmers who rush the game out then have you wasting hours tweaking the game and looking around on fourms for help on how to get it running.

spec wise which is the one to get ps3 xbox 360 i aint bothered about blu ray just best spec, must support 1080p due to my screen size.

also are any new consoles due soon.

In other words you failed to set up your computer correctly and are experiencing poor performance, thus the whole platform is to blame.

to the OP: Na mate stick with yer kit. Variety is the spice of life. I like my 360 for footy golf and even racing games etc but the real nub of gaming (specifically MP gaming) comes in the form of PC. Clear skies will take a bit to get to a decent playable standard in my opinion. I only bought the original STALKER about 2 months ago and applied all the patches and play it with all the bells and whistles on and it is a top game. I heldd off for a while though as folks said it played crud.

Don't be put off by one title. Enjoy what you have got mate. There are some good games coming out. Yeah Try Team Fortress 2 that is quality. Infact Buy the orange box and play some games with solid quality code. Don't be disheartened. Cod 4 is pretty cool though the MP is a bit boring after a while.

Anyway my two bits worth.
