Timeless classics

I for one don't really play new games such is my obsession with older games.
Saying that, I did Crysis and Warhead and loved them but Farcry 2..........
Why did they call it Farcry ?
Medal of honor Spearhead, il2 and Combat Mission give me all my gaming needs, so much so that I will keep a single core pc going with XP pro just for them.
The thing that keeps me hooked is the online competition. After many years there are lots of seriously good players out there and I love the challenge.
On the negative side some older games are hacked to death, especially MOH but I actually get a kick out of hunting and taunting cheats :D

In about 30 years of gaming, these games stick in my mind as almost religious experiences :

Baldur's Gate 2
UFO - Enemy Unknown
Dungeon Master
Lords of Midnight
Elite
All of the Ultima games except 8 :p
Everquest
Planetside

Depressing how so many games in recent years seem to be completely forgettable - pretty graphics, cliche'd plots, hackneyed characters and predictable gameplay. If it wasn't for Steam giving small independent developers with fresh ideas a way to publish, the industry would be in a right state.

I played Bloodlines recently and loved it, is this more of the same (but obviously a bit more dated)?

Well I would say that gameplay wise bloodlines is the better game, the thing that let bloodlines down for me was the inability to mod and play online.
Redemption still has an epic story though :) but yeah it is pretty dated now.

every time i quit an MMORPG i find myself going back to Diablo 2.

its just more fun being able to slaughter a load of mobs in one go as apposed to 1/2 @ a time then resting before the next 1/2.

thats why my current addiction is Torchlight. :)

Tachyon: The Fringe
Swat 3
Severance Blade Of Darkness (Truly the greatest hack n slash ever)
Rollercoaster Tycoon
Janes ATF
Rome: Total War
TOTAL ANIHILATION

Interesting how quite a few people have gone with more modern games - surely none of these are timeless classics as:

1. They haven't stood the test of time.
2. You won't be playing them in 10 years time

However for me:

Dungeon Master / Chaos Strikes Back
Sensible World of Soccer
Ghosts n Goblins
Captive / Captive 2: Liberation
Kick Off 2
Spellbound (frustrating as hell!)
Age of Empires

I decided to include games that have taken up the majority of my 26 odd years of gaming

Player manager - original Anco release for Amiga
Sensible Soccer - Amiga
Speedball - Amiga
Laserquest - Amiga
Gunship - Amiga
Championship Manager - PC - the original series
Medal of Honour Allied Assault - MOHAA
Call of Duty
TF2 (this has to go in just for the scale of support from Valve)
BF2 (when not playing against dolphin diving script monkeys)
Rome total War (seemed to have more longevity to it than the others)
COD MW

Dark Reign - the first one
Imperium Galactica II - for the skirmish
Warzone2100
Vampire the Masquerade : Redemption - \o/ Considering another play through soon...
Tiberium Sun
Unreal

Oh yes! Though I rarely play on any but the base toolset. The sweets & toys layout is good for a laugh sometimes, but I just don't know any of the others like I do the first. That early coal run always gets me started.

This isn't me, by the way, but brings back fond memories:

*snip image*
wait, rounded train tracks? when did those get added? or is that a mod, last time I played (last xmas... family get together = old game session) they were still pointy corners ;)

Oh man Transport Tycoon... i remember wasting so much time on that game in years gone by.

Raptor: Call of Shadows (i think it was)
Total Annihilation

Man i loved the AI boost for TA... something satisfying about beating down 3 epic mode computer enemies all trying to nuke you into dust every 5 seconds.

Dark Reign - the first one
Imperium Galactica II - for the skirmish
Warzone2100
Vampire the Masquerade : Redemption - \o/ Considering another play through soon...
Tiberium Sun
Unreal

Warzone 2100! How did I miss that - I absolutely loved that game back on release. I don't think I actually completed it either.

I still play Heroes of Might & Magic 3, Death Rally and Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 on my gf's laptop.
