Tinnitus who suffers from it

Sounds familiar, I managed to isolate it down to two tones between 15-16khz for me. Great real world comparison though.

I'll try the ENT route first, especially as my Mum sometimes covers that clinic at the hospital so should be able to get seen quickly if I get a referral. Always a cancellation to hop on from what she says.

Having not done this before, do I just register with say BUPA or is it a case of Googling a private ear doctor and making an appointment?

In my case i was seeing a private gp at a BMI hospital because I was getting no where with my nhs gp. He referred me to the ENT for consultation and some tests. The ENT then wrote to my nhs gp and reccomended i go for mri. It wasn't cheap to do all of that but the nhs gp was not interested before i did all that. The ENT consultation was in December, i got a letter about two weeks later to make an appointment with nhs gp which I did yesterday. So we will see what my gp says when i see them in a couple of weeks.

Every morning when I wake up my left ear is blocked. after I get up and get in the shower it starts to unblock and the rest of the day it's not too much bother. This has been going on for months and clearly there is a load of wax in there that needs removing.

I have used Otex and olive oil drops in the past and usually they make things much much worse before they get batter so I am kind of reluctant. What do you guys do?

I've had it for years, since I was a kid I think. No idea what caused it, but I went to my first ever concert (Smashing Pumpkins) when I was 17 and it was loud as hell. Couldn't hear afterwards, so I dont think that helped. I always wear earplugs to concerts since then. No one warned me a concert would be that loud either, no idea how people can tolerate it. My ear drums were distorting just from the sound of people screaming, never mind the actual music.

I've been ill with flu-like symptoms for 6 weeks now, which is very unusual for me since I never get sick, and on Sunday morning I woke up with my right ear completely blocked and with loud tinnitus :(. Went to a GP and turns out I now have an inner ear infection which can take weeks to heal and could even cause permanent damage. I'm dreading having even worse tinnitus. The pain is really bad too, I had to go to A&E on Monday night since I couldn't sleep due to the pain and I got a prescription for codeine. Now I've taken 2 days off work since I still can't hear in that ear and I have to take ibuprofen, paracetomol and codeine all day.

Go and see someone privately to have your ears cleaned out with a little suction device - results are amazing if you have a big build up.

There is a private nurse in Central Manchester that does it for £65.

Just use sodium bicarb drops for a week. Will make it worse initially but does clear the wax eventually. I avoid syringing now and just use the drops as i beleive the syringing i had caused my wax production/clearing issues in the first place.

I'm in this boat, had my left ear syringed twice before and now it blocks every 6 months or so, currently blocked as we speak. Back using drops, so my ear is completely blocked this morning. :(

It's a nightmare as I can barely hear anyone at work, so I feel like a right ignorant bugger. :p

Dunno why, but mine has ramped up significantly in the last couple of months. It has changed pitch too from somewhere around 12-14kHz up to 16-17kHz.

Annoying really as I had pretty much trained myself out of hearing it over the last few years.

Gonna go see the doc soon as it's now driving me slowly mad.

I'm getting like a white noise / high frequency hissing / whooshing type sound that i'll only hear when i focus in on it and when its quiet. If i was to describe its similar to as when you have earplugs in... A kinda white noise. If i have music on, or watching TV i don't notice it. But now for example, if i focus in on it, i'll hear it...

I'm a 43 male, and spent much of my youth riding motorcycles without earplugs and listening to loud music. Once i start hearing it, i'll let it annoy me and keep focused in on it, until i'm able to distract my mind onto something else.

I know what caused mine, messing around with guns as a kid! Anyway, yep I have it quite badly but i dont really notice it anymore. General conversationis fine but when there are multiple people talking or in loud areas like a hall, that becomes problematic and im almost lip reading.

Heard there was some work happening on medications. Wonder if that will take off.

I never do both ears at once. It is bad enough having one ear fully blocked let alone both at once!

I have had this for a couple of years now, it does not bother me and often I forget I have it. I assume it's pointless going to the doctore about it?

Fortunately my right ear has never been blocked, it's clean as a whistle and always has been. Left ear is a gunky mess at the moment. :o:eek::p

And I forgot to add in my previous post, I suffer from slight tinnitus in my left ear probably from the above reasons, after having it syringed it remains so I think I'm stuck with it, I've become used to it though.

Is it weird to get it at 21?

I get it from time to time, when I was around 8 years old I got a really nasty inner ear infection and i'm missing some of the fluid. Means I can't cope with spinning rides very well at all (the tea cups can make me feel sick for a few days).
