Tiscali buys Pipex

entanet is the only isp worth having these days, zen etc are good, but the price to performance ratio on entanet is unmatched IMO
Do entanet offer a service to home users as it doesn't seem so on their site.

Its all the enta resellers he is talking about, ukfsn, adsl24 etc.

Personally I would go with UK Online if Easynet LLU is available on your exchange.

UKFSN and ADSL24 are pricier than Freedom2Surf who I am currently with, and crucially do not have unlimited usage off peak unlike most other ADSL providers.

UK Online has a minimum 12 month contract which I don't want to get tied down to.

Aquiss? 300GB off peak should be more than enough...

£21 a month and only 3 gig peak usage? :(

With F2S you get 5 gigs peak which is plenty for me, and unlimited off peak, for £14.99. That's on MAX. I would be prepared to drop to as slow as 1Mb/256k because I am only getting 1.5 down on MAX anyway due to my long line. But the price and usage allowance are important to me.

ADSL24 and UKFSN also supply the same 300GB off-peak package as Aquiss and without the attitude problems that Aquiss have displayed from time to time.

All the Entanet resellers are small operations, you just need to pick one you like as the personality of the business owner will play a part in your service quality.

Aquiss are also doing their own billing which you may regard as a negative aspect since with UKFSN or ADSL24 Entanet do the billing and also provide support so you don't have to worry if anything does go wrong with your reseller.

To be honest, I'd suggest that you don't move.

If you are looking for a bargin basement price then the transfer to Tiscali is probably taking you where you need to be.

It depends on whether the service goes downhill as a result of the takeover. For now I am staying put because as you say, there aren't any obvious alternatives at the bargain end of the market which are any more attractive.

I will pay more if I *have to* but I don't see any need to if I don't have to :) I obviously don't want to pay more to get a lesser service.

Was considering regrading my Pipex package to either the Pipex-midi or Pipex-max broadband only option, from an old Pipex 1000 (2Mb). But it seems regrading you have to agree to a new 12 month contract.

Don't fancy paying more than a Tiscali customer, if I'm just paying for the Pipex name and getting the same service as a Tiscali account.

Any idea if Pipex contracts will be changing? So I could opt out, even after regrading?

I'm paying £30/pm to Nildram so if Tiscali take over their lines then presumably I'll be getting what Tiscali consider a pretty premium service?

More like a rather profitable one if they can put you on their LLU network.

It will be interesting to see exactly what they do with the customers they have acquired. 30 day contracts are not their style but no way to change that without people leaving so they may just keep things much as they are for the moment to avoid rocking the boat while they gently move as many as possible to LLU.

FFS :( I have a connection on Pipex and a connection on Nildram. Must remember to get a MAC for both on Monday and move to Zen.

I see Plusnet are offering a free month if you migrate from Pipex to Plusnet might take that one up.

On the contract side if your on 12 months then I would have thought that there will be a clause in there meaning youll be there for the contract period afaik its in Tiscali's interest to make sure they have as many customers on a contract or the buy out would be worth conciderably less.

The 300gig package should include 30 gig peak useage (according to my Enta Net reseller spec). From the hours of 8am - 10pm.

Unless the reseller has changed the plans about a little?

£21 = 3 gig peak

£25 = 30 gig peak

Versus Freedom2Surf who I am currently with:-

£15 = 5 gig peak

£20 = 20 gig peak

£24 = 50 gig peak

(and no limits off peak)

Oh dear, Tiscali are dire..

I especially liked it when they started debiting random amounts from us long after we stopped being customers

They are buying Pipex Internet Ltd, so the company not just the customers which means that all current contracts continue unchanged so no instant exit opportunity unless Tiscali decide to make contract changes which frankly is unlikely at least at first.

The more likely scenario is that they will move as many people as possible onto the Tiscali LLU network so they increase the margins they make on those customers. That does not constitute a contract change so won't allow people to escape.

personally i would have left pipex long before tiscali became involved, horrible company in my opinion.

thank god im with ukfsn.
