Titanic submersible confirmed destroyed with loss of all five souls onboard.

The guy being interviewed now basically said they used mission specialist as a way to skirt regulations, with everything coming out, I can't see how there isn't legal action after this investigation concludes

Is there any money left in the company though? If not there is nothing to go after. There might be criminal prosecutions options on maybe a very small number of individuals but that wouldn't be for the deaths directly, only the skirting issues around process and payment.

Todays testimony is up and running, might find out what they actually think the point of failure was today.

Also, didn’t realise this was the second carbon hull, the first one was retired after a big crack appeared in it.

Worst thing was Stockton was a cheapskate and wanted everything done low cost even by cutting corners or made in house even at the expense of safety. The arrogance and ego of the man got himself and his customers killed.

You can heap all the blame on Stockton because he gone but Tony Nissen still has a lot to answer for. He might not have made all the blunders but he sure as hell allowed Stockton to do wanted when Nissen was the Director of Engineering and even went as far as help cover up and ignore external engineering advice. The bloke from Hydrospace said they had a solid line of communication with Stockton and ..... diiiid deeiii deeee .... Tony Nissen. They costed a proper window for the vessel rated for 4000 metres depth certified and did not buy it because it costed $35000. He said u dont have to buy from us you can get from these list of alternative sellers. That rat Nissen blamed everything on the idiot but he is looking more and more shady by the minute. We know it wasnt the window that caused the implosion but the point is he was a real skin flint when it came to getting it built properly.

so until the window debris is found is that a leading candidate for initiating implosion - have they simulated what might follow it's failure.

e: someone had simulated porthole .. which anyway was expected to compress inwards by 3/4"

I thought the consensus was the glued seals between the titanium front cap and the carbon fibre hull that failed that caused it implode and hull to crumble within. The main clue is the front window was pushed outwards opposite to the implosion which was reaffirmed by the titanium cap being intact (windowless) being found. Everything else hull, passengers, equipment was squashed to metal back cap of the wreckage.

The NTSB engineer basically said it was either the window, the glue join or the carbon fibre and there was no real way of knowing which bit failed first.
Yep there was a diagram that he showed with the possible failure points but they couldn't say definitively which point failed, not sure it really matters, the sub was definitely not safe and was doomed to fail from the start, it was just a matter of time, only solace is the people on board won't have been able to process the failure

saw a photo on another gallery where the glass bubble window just fell off after a dive 8-/

Yeah crazy. It was another Stockton Rush innovation there should have been 14 or was it 17 bolts securing it. Stockton great idea was to only use 4 bolts and his logic was the pressure would keep it pressed in. All that to save money. Tony Nissan didnt disagree. That's insane not smart.

Pretty damning and Tony Nissen's name keeps coming up from multiple testimonies about its head of engineering.

Also a glimpse of Stockton's attitude and mindset. He would buy a congressman if the US Coastguard became a problem. Clearly thought he was above and exempt of regulation and authorities. The sheer arrogance of the man is criminal.
