To be taken

It makes me angry that the ones who caused the crash are spending 8 years in a cell, when the innocent girls are dead. Why couldnt they have all walked away and the idiot drivers have been killed

oh look a saxo! :D (had to be said!)
RIP to the innocents, but they should no better than to get in cars with scalley nobs. There hardly young ans should know better, so I dont think you can blaim young drivers. that is discrimination, especially when the majority of young driver like myself are decent mature drivers. No doubt this will be seen as speed kills and young drivers are bad. when in reality it was drunk idiots.

Just noticed the amount of deaths and serious accidents that come up when you put saxo in the bbc news search box. :(

Having a smooth drive in a car which attracts attention is so much better than doing 50 and looking like a tool.

But... it's.... it's an old Rover?

Please tell me you mean that in the sense of chavs trying to race you?

Tragic :(

I think the driving age should be raised to 18 years old. Also, that youngsters should be limited to less powerful cars, until they are 21 or 25, in the same way as certain lorries cannot be driven until 21. I also agree that youngsters should have to do the advanced driving test.

were the passengers wearing seatbelts? if not would it have made a difference you think?

Unlikely they were wearing seatbelts, it might of saved the lifes of the girls but I cannot judge in this situation due to the car hitting the tree.

If a car spins and hits a tree side on like that the shock put into your body would have caused mass internal bleeding, a seatbelt might have helped to the furthest away passengers.

Given that both drivers were over 21, how would that have helped?

Another reason why young girls should not be aloud to go driving with older guys :(

i dont see the point in raising the driving age to 18. thats only 12 months difference, and if your immauture at 17, no doubt you still will be at 18.

I mean like 15,16,17 year old girls. Most guys i know that take girls that age are after one thing or have the mentality of a 13 yr old.
And 15, 16 and 17 year old girls arnt as aware what could happen to them as older girls are.

I think he means the 15-18 year olds, even if youre ugly and have a nice car its an attraction. These guys have girls in their cars and drive like lunatics, girls fault for thinking "woot im in a car i look cool" but the guys are stupid.

Its amazing the damage you recieve at 30mph let alone 70! Sad story but these drivers to peeve me off. Try going out late friday for even a quick nip to the shop, all I see are lads driving like mad on the roads even up to 100mph at times.

*edit*

and this is why I never get into cars with anyone other than my parents.

... I doubt ill be any more mature at 30....

its all about being sensible for the situation..

IN MY HONEST OPINION (unholy mother of flaming is about to come my way..)

there is precisely nothing wrong in me doing 100mph, at 4am on the way home from my girlfriends on an empty, dry, clear motorway with a well maintained car...

however.. if I crashed, it'd be some thing about me being young in a powerful car, how the devil himself will eat my soul etc.....

BUT...

say im doing 30, in a 30, outside a school.. and I run over and kill a child.. in the same clean clear conditions... it'd be an article about how poor the road surface was.. or how a crossing was needed...

notice the problem with these scenarios... 100 mph on the deserted, clear, motorway is 'safe' wheras, 30, in the 30 (not breaking ANY laws here folks) isnt.... however as far as the law is concerned, im going to hell for the motorway offence, and ive done nothing wrong running the kid down...

I think any young driver that is willing to pay thousands on insurance for a high powered car should instantly be refused there and then. These are the idiots that are likely to cause accidents and kill people. After all, if they're so impatient that they can't wait a few years for the price to become reasonable then it's safe to say their attitude is probably the same on the road.

Not that it solves the problem but it'd certainly reduce it a little and stop morons like that who took his new Scooby off an embankment and into a tree the other year.

Here's my logic. These people obviously expect to crash. If they didn't then they certainly wouldn't waste thousands on nothing.
