to get ABS, or not ABS - that is the question...

Panther Black would be My first choice but out of the two you've shortlisted it'd have to be Pepper Red.

On subject of ABS, Get it!:

G/friend works for Ford and just went on a course where She got to thrash all sorts of Ford's around a track (lucky *****)

They did a lot of testing comparing non ABS to ABS and ESP.

Imagine doing 60MPH down a track with one side of car on dry, grippy tarmac, and the other side on wet greasy stuff. Then Slam on the brakes as hard as you can!

Non ABS were (obviously) straight into a spin.
ABS cars just stopped, no mess, no fuss.
ESP even better apparantly.

You might never need it but, like a seat belt and an airbag, it's nice to have them if the worst happens.

That is why it's a good thing.

I've had it cut in twice on the MG both times under 40 miles an hour both times it meant I could steer away from a child.

In this situation ABS is good for stopping quickly, catching the little buggers and dragging them back to their parents to ask why they are being allowed to play on a 40mph road.

lets see,
ABS = £150
life/insurance = Priceless/too damn much

I'd go with the ABS if I were you, as you said yourself £150 isn't a lot in the grand scheme of total price of the car and will help resale values if not used but more importantly may help save either yourself and your car or a little kid leaping out infront of you some day. Worryingly it sounds to me like some people consider it an almost macho thing not to have ABS under the pretence that they are good enough drivers not to need it, well maybe so, I would also like to think that I can cadence break properly too as I have spent more of my driving years behind the wheel of cars without ABS than with but id still rather have it there to back me up should I go wrong. Better to have it than not I'd say. As for the colour, well id never buy a focus (pssst the current model Astra is much nicer ;P) personally but being as you are, id go with the Moondust Silver myself, but out of the two colours you shortlisted I'd opt for the blue.
