Today i'm facing my biggest fear!

Good luck fella, you'll be fine. And just remember to have them video as you come out of the anaesthesia. People do and say some crazy **** at times. :D

You'll be alreeet. Was the best sleep I ever had. Coming around from it is such a strange feeling!

I kept getting told off by the nurses after I woke up as all I wanted to do was sleep, not drink the cup of water they kept telling me to do :(

Its a funny one, ive been under a couple of times, but I remember it a bit like waking up in slow motion

Had to have an op when I was 7, the memories are strong.

Was offered a gas mask or injection and I chose gas obviously.

Have only been in hospital twice.

First was when I had my tonsils out when still a kid. I vaguely remember having a butterfly needle in the back of my hand and vanilla ice-cream.
Second was hit by a double decker bus about 17 years ago, woke up 6 months later (coma) remember waking up to my dad next to me and having to relearn to walk

Don't plan on visiting anytime soon!

when i had my kidney op several years ago now. they wheeled me down to the pre op room and i lay there literally shaking i was so worried about what was going to happen.
This nurse comes up to me and says no worries we will give you a little something to make you more relaxed
next thing i remember im semi awake in a different room with a different nurse next to me.
I say to her shouldnt we be going down soon to get it done. She laughed and said your done allready did you have a nice snooze lol
so yea as others have said its a breeze and the morphine is a real treat after

I spent all day waiting, being told that they will be collecting me soon so make sure i'm ready, it got to 4pm and they finally picked me up and took me to theater, had a chat with anesthetist and made peace with myself (lol), waited for about 20 minutes to go to theater then was told they had to cancel me as they had just got an emergency and needed the theater for it, rescheduled for some time tomorrow now. I was so close!

THis was my worst fear when I went for surgery, having to go through all that build up again. Sucks man. Hopefully sorted soon.

The drugs on the other side are good though!

I'm currently in my hospital bed waiting to go down to surgery to have my gall bladder removed. I've got to 46 years old without ever having to visit a hospital for anything more than a sprained ankle! Now i'm about to go under a general anaesthetic and frankly, i'm bricking it, i've always dreaded this day coming, having no control of my immediate destiny. I'm sure everything is going to be fine but it's the fear of the unknown! Hopefully i'll be back in a few hours saying I had nothing to worry about :)

I have had many surgeries due to having Hydrocephalus and it's easy for me to say, it's nothing to worry about, but I understand the fear you have. Talk to the anaesthetist about your worries, when they come. They are professionals and will be able to hopefully able to reassure you better than a random person on the Internet. I hope all goes well with the surgery and you make a speedy recovery.

Wow! That must have been nuts. I've instructed my wife not to trim my beard or cut my hair if I'm ever in a coma. Hope to at least wake up looking like a yeti.

I've had a ******** of general anaesthetics due to Crohn's and a couple of other things (slipped disc, etc.). I find it incredibly relaxing. Having said that, I don't suffer from bad after-effects from anaesthetic. My wife is always very sick afterwards

The best stuff they've given me is ketamine. Having taken it once in less salubrious circumstances and believing I was going to die, having it at the hospital was lovely. It's amazing how well they can control how it affects you.

I had a lengthy back op as my first general anaesthetic!

Best sleep I ever had..

The funny thing was, I woke up refreshed, lying on my back and my first thought was "Bugger, if I'm on my back they can't have done the op, because surely they wouldn't have my body weight on the surgery site".. I asked the nurse who said "No, everything went well, we got it done in 4 hours and no complications" It took me a while to accept that, I just had this amazing feeling of serenity (morphine induced!)

But, obviously slightly nervous going in to theatre, however, the count down from 10, I think I made it to 7, that was it..

Ironically I now work in the medical device industry and work with clinicians all the time, primarily for cardio thoracic therapies and life support, so lots of anaesthesia, from general to cardioplegia and certainly have much less worries about surgery.. considering our stuff is used when you are in the most dire of conditions, the outcomes are ridiculously positive..

Try to relax! We can't stop your mind going in circles, but can reassure you that it's a positive experience and obviously focus on the fact you'll not be in any more pain!
