Today i'm facing my biggest fear!

I love General Anaesthetic, the feeling of slowly waking up, pumped full of morphine and being all warm and fuzzy is my favourite feeling ever!

Thank god i've got a smidgen of self control or i'd be an opiate addict way too easily
The warm and fuzzy feeling in the recovery room with a lovely looking nurse... Put me under doc

My first one was the worst - I hope I never have to go through that again.

Kidding - You will be OK - trust me.

Yes my first one was bad - They put a mask over my mouth and nose and dripped chloroform on it - Was sick as dog when I woke up.

This was in the good old 1950's when NHS was first formed. It's improved a lot since.

PS - I knew you were in NZ
:D

It got cancelled again :(

Got sent down at 12pm as I was told I was due next, laid in bay 3 of 8, watching all the other bays fill and then empty, then fill, and empty again, 3 hours later was told it got cancelled again as there were 3 emergency operations. Third time lucky tomorrow hopefully!

Good luck.

Am currently sitting in my hospital gown waiting to go down for abdominal surgery.

Absolutely shi bricks, first time I've had surgery.

... no one seemed to have told op yet which way round the gown goes - that was my newbie mistake at 19 -

still got what they took out in a specimen jar ... 4 wisdom teeth - never recovered.

Anesthetic has definitely improved. When I was a kid in the early 80's having my appendix removed I was asked to count backwards from 10 to 1. I was still aware at about -5. I recently had a general anesthetic and I was out in seconds.

I already went under GA a few times in my life, it takes seconds for you to sleep.

Last time was less than a week ago...

My only advice is, after you wake up, even if you think that everything is ok, don't try to stand or sit, just stay in bed for at least 1 hour with the back in a low incline (usually they leave like that already), after that you can try to lift the back of the bed a bit more and stay 1 more hour like that... avoid using mobile phones or reading stuff for the first two hours after you wake up. (mainly avoid doing anything that you need to focus on)

If you need to pee, be very carefull or ask them for a disposable pee bowl, so you can pee while on the bed.

Had my first GA 6 months ago to look at my knee (it`s *****) Waking up was the best feeling ever. You can see how people get addicted to it :)

Last time I had an anaesthetic I came round pretty quickly and was wide awake for when they pulled the tube out from inside my throat  A bit like being removed from the Matrix, fun!

Yeah the feeling sick part depends on how you react to the anaesthetic even now. Going into the op is easy the recovery is the uphill part.

Back out of surgery all went well

I indeed put the gown on the wrong way round lol, no issues though apart from my carrot and veg getting squeezed in the hospital pants.

Just waiting in my room now while I recover need to eat something use the toilet and then I'm off home

Don't feel to bad after coming round was only under for over an hour, as much as I was dreading it the whole process wasn't to bad.
