A superb price on a superb monitor. I'd go as far as saying that this is the best 1440p gaming TN on the market, bar none. For those lamenting over the fact it's a TN panel, I'd suggest you have a look at one if you can as honestly it's very impressive. I had this and the ROG PG279Q together for a while and the colours were not as different as you might think. The panel is almost identical to the PG278Q, but on the Dell you get additional inputs which can be handy. The major advantage this has over the other G-Sync competition (not including its under-stated looks...I know they're a bit subjective!) is that Dell warranty and support. In the event of a fault Dell will send your replacement next working day and before they receive the defective one back. Nice.
Considering the price of a good 1080p G-Sync 144Hz monitor, I think at this price the S2716DG is a steal.
With that said, I've had the monitor for some time and there are a couple of points potential buyers might want to know. First, the vertical colour shift on this (and every TN panel of this size or bigger) is noticeable. I didn't have a problem with it on my old 24" panel, and wondered why everyone always went on about 'viewing angles' (you sit right in front of the monitor, right?!)...but on this monitor I can clearly see the difference in colour between something at the top, middle and bottom of the screen. Not a big deal when gaming, but worth noting if you do any work where this could be annoying.
Another point is this monitor does exhibit some pixel inversion. It seems to vary in severity from hardly noticeable to very annoying. Luckily mine is towards the hardly notceable end, but I do occasionally see moving vertical lines on textures that just shouldn't be there. Apparently this is a result of the fast transitions made possible by the monitor and plagues every fast TN panel.
Also, please be aware that you almost certainly won't be getting a 1ms response rate. It is possible, but only by using the Fast response time option from the OSD. The issue with that is it introduces a hideous amount of overshoot. On Normal mode this monitor is around 3ms response. Can you tell the difference? Probably not, but worth pointing out just in case.
Finally, calibrating this monitor using only the OSD is tricky as it lacks a gamma control - the only options that can be changed are Brightness, Contrast and RGB. Again this isn't a major problem as you can just tweak via Nvidia Control Panel, or get an ICC etc...but it is a bit of a pain when a game hijacks your colour settings as it will likely look quite different to your preferred colour settings.
Anyway, I'd say that if you are wanting to upgrade from 1080p to a fast 1440p panel this should be your number 1 choice at this price - so long as you're using an Nvidia card!
