Today's mass shooting in the US

Looks like they've caught this guy.
They've caught someone anyway. They said he was found with a Silencer and a gun 'similar' to the type used. I find it rather unlikely, in fact extremely unlikely that whoever was responsible hasn't disposed of the gun already, and the Silencer very, very far away from each other. To keep a hold of them would be idiotic in the extreme, even for someone who was a complete amateur.

But, then knowing the NYPD's reputation, once they think it was who they have in custody, who knows what evidence they'll come up with to pin it on the guy!

The guy sounds like he wants to be some sort of martyr, supposedly found with a manifesto on him so will be interesting to see what it says (if they ever release it).

He's clearly not a professional, and has made numerous glaring errors - having just watched the NYPD press conference, I'd be very surprised if they've detained the wrong person.

Does anyone know how/why they're able to detain and question him, but haven't arrested him? Is it some US judicial peculiarity?

To add, bbc are reported he was arrested initially for an unrelated offence. Odd.

Ah yes, the most likely explanation is one of conspiracy theory.

Don't worry, America's finest journalists have identified the culprit in his dark past:

Goes to a McDonalds…with gun, mask and essentially a confession. Most strange. Either an idiot, wants to get caught or conspiracy theory CIA plant.

Screams Patsy. Why on earth would he still have the gun and silencer on him? There would have been a million places between NY and where he was arrested where the gun and silencer would never be found. And he should have immediately dumped the fake documents as well. The guy is clearly an amateur.

Maybe he was on the way to do another job, but got distracted by a Maccy Ds :p

Not one of the games I expected to be brought up when mentioning assassins. Media just desperate for an angle.
To be fair, that's taken out of context (what a surprise)

I googled the story and the key point of bringing up the game was that someone he played the game with thought it was weirdly ironic they were playing a game with a secret assassin mechanic, with an actual assassin.

Look at you spoiling all the fun with your fancy "facts" and "accuracy". Jeez, I bet you're fun at parties.

For sure, it was a throwaway comment that adds nothing to the story, but the headline and starting out the article that way is definitely trying to push some engagement by suggesting a link which isn't there.
