Other than he has stood in front of the press and explained what kind of process is going on.
EDIT: Mind you it was one of the most cringe worthy performances I've seen - the first half it was like every word tasted like excrement coming out of his mouth heh.

Don't really know your political views or anything so going to make you devils advocate but that right there encapsulates a lot that's wrong in the world.
Obama tried repeatedly to bring in better gun controls but was stalled and thwarted everytime by a congress too scared of the NRA and republican vote to do anything.
Gun controls that might have prevented these massacres.
Now a Republican President comes in and hints at some form of control and people find it amusing because Obama couldn't? The same people that would have kicked and screamed if Obama tried to do it? While those folks are patting themselves on the back for getting one over the other political side kids in schools are getting their heads blown off.
An armed society is a polite society...

The one theme that seems to run through most of these school shootings is about wimpy/marginalised kids who have been subjected to sustained bullying finally snapping.
Now, the question is, why, after all this time, has the message not got through that bullying the wimpy kid is a very bad idea because he is the one who will eventually come to school with an Uzi and blow everybody into little kibbles..
School shootings are not caused by the ready availability of firearms, they are a symptom of a rather different underlying problem.
Perhaps if more effort was put into dealing with the underlying causes the issue of firearms availability would go away all on its own

it's much easier to control gun sales than to stop bullying, although obviously trying to address both is a good idea.

Kids are bullied the world over and don't do to school and gun down half the pupils and that is obviously going to be impart because it is much harder to get hold of suitable weapons in other parts of the world! I agree totally with your point though protect the vulnerable kids and they won't become shooters nobody is born evil society drives some people to it. The key is to tackle both points as you will never eradicate either bullying or guns.
Obama tried and, true to form, Obama failed. Obama was in power when the terrible Sandy Hook shooting took place (on the 14th of December 2012, 20 children were murdered by Adam Lanza). At that time, Obama had a majority in the Senate, which the Democrats maintained up to 2015. Obama could not get the legislation he proposed passed the Democrat-dominated Senate, let alone the Republican-dominated Representatives. It is true that Obama was a partisan and terrible at making deals with politicians: Obama preferred to moralize and lecture (good riddance to this useless US president – Obama made Jimmy Carter look competent). It is undeniable that plenty of Democrats support the Second Amendment, therefore it is naive to pretend that the Republicans and NRA are the only obstacles to reform.
They never had a large enough majority to push anything through outright even if they all voted in favour, which not all did.
Obama did put through an action that mentally ill folk on benefits be added to an FBI screening system - but Trump rescinded that.
Oh for sure, And if you look at the raw numbers, the percentage of American kids who are bullied and then go on to shoot up their schools is very very VERY small.
So small in fact that the level of gun control that would be required to prevent it would basically be impossible to impose in the USA.
Except that, because of the numbers, Stopping School shootings by restricting Gun sales would be like trying to stop bank robberies by restricting car sales.
Even if legal access to firearms was restricted the illegal market in the US is vast. The fact that the states and cities with the toughest gun regulation are nevertheless high up in the stats for firearm related crime just goes to demonstrate the futility of using gun regulation to control gun crime, especially when you are attempting to affect the behavior of a tiny number of individuals.
This situation really is one where an ounce of timely intervention is worth a ton of rules and regulations

I'm anti-Trump, pro-gun control, and loving the irony of Trump banning bump stocks after Obama didn't. For 8 years, Republicans told everyone that 'Obama wants to take away your guns.' Obama publicly denied this, but the lie persisted.
Now their orange Messiah is about to ban bump stocks, and the schadenfreude could not be sweeter.

you're right, there is no quick fix to the problem of the amount of guns in the us, however federal level regulation will at least start the ball rolling so that in 20 years time this will be a much rarer occurrence.
the problem with looking at specific states is simply that if the state next door has very lax regulations then the regulations will be useless, any control needs to be on a federal level or not at all.
