Today's mass shooting in the US

Is the classroom any place for a firearm, absolutely not. Most active shooters want to go out in a blaze of glory, this will just up the collateral carnage and offer the shooter a challenge.

Trump should propose a ban on trigger bumps, raise the legal age of buying a gun to at least 21 (I would prefer 25) and improve national background checks. This would be a first step that nobody could argue with.

I am not anti-gun but I am all for very heavy regulation.

The shooter won't even need to bring a gun in. They can just find a small 5.5" female teacher, knock them down and take their gun from them.

Americans seem to think a gun makes you untouchable. One of the reasons we don't arm cops in the UK is an attacker can take them by surprise and take the gun off them.

I'd like to know what Rubio thinks is the right way to look at it.

Franklin Douglas high school junior Cameron Kasky, who survived the Parkland shooting, asked Sen. Marco Rubio at the CNN town hall on Wednesday if he would stop accepting donations from the National Rifle Association. Rubio said he would not, and told Kasky the question was "the wrong way to look at it."

Florida CNN sponsored townhall debate, with the students and families questioning senators and the NRA spokeswoman

WOW. I'm only 20 mins in but what strikes me above anything else is how incredibly brave and composed the kids and families who were directly affected speaking are. Powerful stuff. Thank you for sharing I'd recommend watching it to anyone.

Way to go America.

Lets combat gun violence in schools by throwing more guns into the mix.

What happens if a teacher flips out and shoots a kid?

Madness utter madness , i only hope that when they reach voting age the youth of america will demand and vote for people who will take action to make changes regarding guns.

Compare the oratory of these senators with trump in his meeting; the composure is shared across the meetings, and is diificult to relate to, without the heritage of a culture where this is such a regular occurence

Personally, am against arming the teachers, I think it's already absurd that schools over there have metal detectors, security guards and even their own police force, it's like prison.

But, this is logical step, it's a semi good temporary measure to counter the problem when it arises.

Law abiding citizens have stopped numberless shooters before, they have protected home owners against home inversions as well in other protected lives of the gun owner and others, the latest recent one is the guy who chased the gunman who shot up the church back in November.

Teachers come from many backgrounds, some can be ex military or police or already have trained with guns before.

The likely situation is if this happens is no different to what they do now, they will lock the school down, close the door and lock it, hide under the desks or whatever and block the door while the teacher will have their gun ready if the shooter attempts to break in.

I doubt they will go roam around the school.

That said! There is going to be many problems that arises from this.

Guns will get lost, they will get stolen. There might be the times when a teacher decides to take his own life and maybe possible others too. Anything is possible.

There is also the chance that the teacher might get shot by the Police when they arrive and run into a armed teacher, unsure who who is identify is.

There is also a fact, that the shooter could kill the teacher first and still have 30-40 kids in a classroom to gun down.

But that one teacher might be able stop him.

There is also a high chance that, they won't attack the school anymore now they understand the teachers are armed.

A lot of pro-gun people also say, that a lot of mass shootings happen in "gun free zones". I did a 2 minute google research on this and couldn't find a 100% answer on it.

Ah well, that's America for you anyway, no major firearm laws or changes will happen in our lifetimes.

The NRA viec president is giving a speech to a conference where he's now pushing the "socialists trying to take our guns away" and conspiracy theories, he's also (if I heard him correctly) referred to the NRA as one of the biggest law enforcement organisations in the US because of the number of law enforcement people who are members.

He's also pushing the idea that older people who sought help to do taxes were banned from owning guns.

i think his nose could become a problem for the ISS if he looks up at this rate.

I've somehow ended up on the NRA mailing list and get a letter from them every year, each saying how the 2nd Amendment rights are under attack and that I need to become a member to fight for my rights. Complete brainwashing *****.

Anyway, it's funny to see Trump bragging about how they're taking action because it's been too many years of talk and no action. I wonder if he realizes that it's his party that has been preventing any action?

In fairness given that teachers can legally own guns, if them having guns was going to be an issue it would already be an issue. This isn't a perfect fix but it is a temporary fix that could help prevent more shootings either by allowing the teacher to nullify the shooter or just putting the shooter off due to reduced chance of success.

I don't think school shooters are put off by the idea of possibly getting shot. I think arming teachers will make them the first target and also create a holy grail opportunity for kids to steal something worth money, is dangerous and is cool.
