Today's mass shooting in the US

Incredible that the police officer is being judged in a court of public opinion. 99.999% of people will never be in his shoes so don't know how they would react in that situation. Even with training soldiers crumble in the battlefield. This police officer was not stopping a speeding car, he was faced with confronting a heavily armed shooter in what was essentially a war zone.

I'm not sure 1 man = a war zone.

One officer with a handgun against at least one unstable lunatic with at least one assault rifle and an unspscified number of other weapons... seems to me like suicide to move into a situation like that on one’s own...

I'm not sure 1 man = a war zone.

From what I can make out there was fairly sustained fire for the first 90 seconds or so with multiple instances where the shooter fired off approx. 15 rounds in 10 seconds between intervals - that is going to sound something like a war zone :s

ItsI amazing the nonsence that all too often creeps into modern mainstream media reporting.....

From the above linked article....

'Peterson, who towers over 6 feet tall'

1) meerly being a male over 6 feet tall just only guarantees that you are you a bit above average...

2) how is it relevant to the situation? If anything being bigger is an impediment in such a situation as you present as a bigger target....

The clear implication by the use of wording is that the cops height should have made him more inclined/liable to go charging into a very uneven gun fight not in his favour

Lol at the idea of the officer running in alone to tackle madman with an AR15 whilst armed with a pea shooter. Also hollering 'Police!' to boot. :D

Quick way to end up dead.

Well Trump said he was a coward, Trump also said arming teachers is the way forward, as can be explaned using the Austrialian situation.
Shark attack at a beach, every is issued with a shark to protect them from shark attack.

Amazing letting teachers carry guns is THE ONLY way to keep schools safe. Trumps words.
More guns solves the gunsituation.

Trump is a ****, doesn't matter what that imbecile says
The cop clearly was at fault for not going in with his phased plasma rifle (the 40 watt range version) and wiping out the scum while shrugging off multiple hits that just bounced off his exoskeleton - i mean thats what it is supposed to be like .. right...??

An elastic band can do the same job. You wrap an elastic band around the trigger and the forces of the rifle act on the elastic band causing the trigger to reset and bounce of the shooter's finger. It's effectively the same way a tac-trigger works.

People who want to find ways of getting around the law will do that. That's what I mean by banning the bump stock being dumb. It will achieve nothing. Even banning assault rifles will do nothing to rid Americans of their murderous intent.

That trick only really works like that with pistol calibres with bolts that work in a certain way (still a pretty nasty setup) - with something like the AR-15 you'd only get close to those speeds shooting from the hip with little useable accuracy and far less reliable if and when it works anything like automatic fire. A bump stock makes it far far easier to turn a semi automatic rifle into something approaching a proper assault rifle or machinegun with better reliability and control. At the end of the day if someone is determined I'm sure they can DIY their own system, etc. but as with everything why make it easy for them?

Police officer would have probably shot the wrong one anyway...
Real life isn't the movies, the officer would probably be hailed a (dead) hero now if he'd gone in. Being America though, more guns solves everything.

(.. changing topic from armchair gun enthousiasm )

Channel 4 news interview by Kylie Morris with school student was exploitative, with the interviewer just feeding her agenda to the students, why would parents let their children participate ? eg.- Morris "what about the death threats via social media to students wanting gun rule changesges" .... feeding frenzy.

I think the difference is Trump dosnt need to be so involved with NRA he has huge amounts of wealth whilst Obama did not.

So In this regard I dont understand why he so cozy with them but I dont understand USA politics really just something I was told.

They have huge amounts of influence and a voting base with them that is why he is so cosy - he probably tells them one thing then another group the complete opposite as well.

Donald Trump Jr. is also a huge gun enthusiast and goes to most of the big gun shows.

Is this the same Donald Trump who will not come to the UK as he is scared of a "few" people on the streets protesting nicely........ seems rather cowardly to me.

Oh do i hope he comes to the UK, I would actually take a day just to walk the streets in protest.

Yeah totally, I mean an armed police officer faced with an armed criminal and he didn't intervene when kids were being massacred... people should be totally cool with that. Who'd have thought that he might one day have a situation where his firearm needs to be used?

It's like a firefighter who only signed up to rescue cats from trees and put out bonfires... who can blame him when he says **** this when faced with an actual burning building/having to make use of the oxygen equipment... or perhaps a soldier who signed up thinking it would mostly be UN tours/Balkans type stuff... obvs he might get killed or seriously injured in Afghanistan/Iraq etc.. so it would be simply 'incredible' to judge him if he goes AWOL when faced with deployment.

Perhaps people with those sorts of ideas shouldn't wear the uniform/take the pay in the first place if they don't want to do the job when it really really counts - his job was protecting those kids.

Exactly this. Everyone judging this guy like they can guarantee how they’d act in a similar situation. Maybe right up to that point in time this guy thought he would be able to do it. Self preservation obviously kicked in. Not everyone is a natural hero. And as someone stated earlier, how can Trump and the NRA press ahead with arming teachers. This is the reality.
