Tokyo Olympics 2020

Diving - after seeing the Chinese competitive dive to Tom Daley their diagonal twist was very impressive
... do they report what all the 11 judges give. ?
Scoring is done by a panel of eleven judges, with five judges evaluating synchronization and three judges evaluating execution of each individual diver. For each dive, each judge gives a score between 0 and 10 with 0.5 point increments. The top and bottom synchronization scores and the top and bottom execution scores for each diver are discarded. The remaining five scores are summed, multiplied by 3⁄5, and multiplied by the degree of difficulty to give a dive score

Triathlon in the rain on that blue plastic material looked treacherous , like the tight corners. - great silver
need to look up if they use different tubulars

Catchup - with a VPN seems you can watch the NBC coverage if you don't have eurosport

Did I miss something because I thought climbing is a new sport to Tokyo? I've not seen it mentioned even once on the BBC yet. Perhaps there are no British contenders. I'll go and investigate.

Climbing is definitely a thing but its just a shame its a combined event. I believe that in the next olympics they are splitting it out so proper climbers don't have to do speed.

Bianca Walkden brings home a third Taekwondo GB medal after a cagey bronze medal fight, thanks to a fairly large number of scoring punches compared to a typical fight.

Yep, just watched that, pleased for her.

I've got the real volleyball on in the background and it's ridiculous. High fives, handshakes and huddles after every single point. There was a shot of the umpire/referee and he actually rolled his eyes just now while they were doing it.

Hah, exactly. It's completely ridiculous. Seems to be a habit in Tennis too, although not as bad, just the high fives without the hugs. Oh, and the regular fistpumps as well.

It's next week.

Shame we have this daft combined event so the silly speed climbing could end up deciding things. I don't see why there couldn't have just been separate medals if we really have to include speed.

Janja Garnbret is going to clean up the women's comp still. Would love to see Ondra win the men's comp.

I think it came from a place of complete ignorance on the part of the olympics committee of what climbing disciplines are like and how very different speed climbing is. No one takes speed climbing seriously who also takes any other form of climbing seriously. Its a real shame they had to include that in the competition.

can't see a decent description of the protocol - https://olympics.com/tokyo-2020/en/sports/sport-climbing/
not sure if it on sight, and/or what the (joint?) preparation time is ?
since two folks do same route, at same time, it is only their relative time that counts too, so speed, to the point where you injure yourself might be reduced,

How did our Sky Brown do?

the ones i watches were Japanese and Brazillian 13 year old girls getting Gold and Silver lol. Must be a young sport, when i was skateboarding at that age i couldnt do more than a couple of basic tricks and even then you landed on concrete so hard you could feel it for a week
