Tomb Raider 2: Rise of the Tomb Raider Announced

Incredible?? Where were the puzzles, tombs and exploring? It was good as a linear shooter but NOT as a Tomb Raider sequel.

You do realise the idea of that game? It was to establish how Lara became the bad ass she is, it was the prequel to all of them. CD always said it wouldn't be a close the format of the old ones

I much preferred it

Exploring was in there, loads of it too if you wanted. I spent hours just finding all the relics and bonus objectives etc in all the levels. It was done in a way that was far more fun than the old games.

Tombs, granted there weren't any other than the token optional tombs scattered around, but again, it wasn't about the tombs. Lara was becoming the Lara we all know in this game.

Plenty of puzzles in it if you played all the game and not just the story

Lol even that was badly handled - she went from quivering mess to mass murderer with unnerving ease. :D

Tedious grinding for relics is not quite the same as exploring - regardless maybe the next game will go back to proper tomb raiding.

It wasn't tedious though. But obviously opinions are opinions and not everyone will like it, I guess I just preferred the "gotta catch them all" style exploring than the way the old games did it.

And I think you're right, with this game done, I think we'll finally have Lara established in to the character she is in the first one and then they'll maybe go back to that type of game after. But I'd like them to keep the combat the same, and the mechanics the same.

That Eurogamer reviewer has got a bee in his bonnet about it not staying true to Lara Croft. Just play the damn game man and enjoy it for what it is. It doesn't matter if it's not like the old games. If she could shoot laser beams out of her eyes, I'd still play it and enjoy it.

Left the last tomb raider for ages after it released, didn't think it would be for me,played a little on pc then more recently whole game on Xbox, one of most enjoyable single player games of recent years imho, will be all over new TR later this week.

I'm pleasently surprised how well this has reviewed.

Will pick it up at Christmas as too into CoD at the moment, but it's good to know it's a great game, just more of the same like the first one is A-OK with me.

Me too, but very happy that it has done so.

Seeing there has only been 2 years since the last one instead of the normal 3 years cycle for these triple AAA titles. I kinda preparing myself for it to be half baked but it seems to be pretty well executed.

Eurogamer disagrees - sounds meh, just more of the same - def wait for cheap PC version.

Eurogamer in Poland disagrees :p they gave it 9/10.

Its a PC title for me and out in Jan isnt it? Standard BS pc delay.

Eurogamer Poland? Lol

You could lol any single review and write it off. The fact of the matter is there are 52 so far and it is at 87%!

Lol at that.

The eurogamer Poland comment was to make fun of the site, the fact that produces 2 contradictory reviews under 1 company makes one question their legitimacy as a whole and your choice of picking the other one as bad as me picking the Poland one, which was purely to point out the contradictions.

Maybe, but I think I will take normal EG vs Polish EG thanks.:D

Edit - normal EG have a completely different reviewing process and dont give arbitrary scores out 100 etc which I like. I'm sure the game will be good just not proper Tomb Raider.

Single review, no.

When it's the majority, VAST majority then there has got to be a reason and justification to its score.

As for the puzzles like in the originals, I'd say this is pretty good, to spend 2 hours in a tomb, even just a few is plenty. And I prefer the game leaving me with a feeling of wanting more than a feeling of too much of it and be bored.

While puzzles have been baked deeper into the main storyline than they were in Lara’s last outing, the most interesting ones are still those that you have to hunt down on the side. Rise of the Tomb Raider’s ‘challenge tombs’, those that speak most strongly to Tomb Raider’s heritage, are its highlight; imaginative, environmentally gorgeous, and increasingly tough as you progress through the world. There are a couple by the end I spent a good hour or two on, but the elation I felt upon solving them was huge.

No one is saying its not 'good' just that its disappointing that they havent fixed the flaws from last time. End of the day I think we all know this will disappear in a couple of weeks and most definitely wont be 'incredible'.

That's the same with every game pretty much, people are already over MGS and that was and is incredible.

A few weeks gone won't change the perception or review scores of Rise of Tomb Raider, these reviews are of someone who had spent 20 hours playing so it's not a rushed score.

I guess we'll see in a couple of weeks.

The MGS thread is still active and that came out ages ago so don't get the relevance.

MGS wasn't that long ago, it was 8 weeks ago.

I won't be surprise Tomb Raider has a short "shelf life", it is expected, because it is a single player linear adventure game, not a sandbox open world.

Looking with that in mind, and an enjoyable (as it seems), 20-30 hours of gameplay. I think it is good.

I love the original so much that I bought it the Definitive edition again on the PS4 when it came out.
