Tomb Raider - Rise of the Raider PC

He telling porky pies :D

O_o I posted my gfx settings in the thread once I had a copy of the game. Which to begin with was running on very high textures and max AF.

Game was running pretty decent but soon as I got to the Soviet Installation I could see the frames dropping and the game was a little stuttery.

Did some reading on both Steam forums/Reddit and saw similar posts regarding the VRAM usage between High and Very High textures.

Lowered textures to High and AF to x8 and the game has been running fantastic. I haven't had a single crash so far.

Oh this is 1080p by the way.

Today's the 12th of Feb 2016.

We have just released the second PC patch for Rise of the Tomb Raider, build 1.0.616.4. This patch addresses a number of requests and bugs we have seen coming up in customer support as well as on the forums.

This patch will be applied by Steam automatically when you next start the game. If your game does not update, please restart the Steam client. If you are using the game on the Window Store, the update will be available in a few days, and will automatically download as it becomes available. We will update this thread when the Windows Store version is live.
Fixed Map sometimes not showing or showing the wrong region.
Fixed ALT-TAB in combination with Exclusive Fullscreen occasionally hanging the game or entire system. (Steam Only)
Fixed graphics glitches on NPC clothing on NVIDIA 6x0 and 7x0 hardware.
Fixed rare crashes with a "DX11 Internal Heap" error.
Added separate mouse sensitivity control for X and Y axis, allowing users to equalize sensitivity.
Added option to reduce in-game camera shake, for users that prefer this.
Added audio-cue for finding secrets in the relic viewer.
Fixed game changing system screen saver settings for some users. (Steam Only)
Added additional error handling and messaging in case the GPU driver is crashing or unresponsive.
Various performance improvements for GPU-bound situations. CPU bound scenarios are not impacted.
A variety of other smaller optimizations, bug-fixes, and tweaks.
While we expect this patch to be an improvement for everyone, if you do have trouble with this patch and prefer to stay on the old version we made a Beta available on Steam, Build 610.1, that can be used to switch back to the previous version.

We will keep monitoring for feedback and will release further patches as it seems required. We always welcome your feedback!

EDIT:

^^

Great, shall try that out later today, here's hoping that the crashing has at least stopped for me!!!!

Will get one for you when I get home today.

Cool, thanks :)

BTW, best to do it as a new game save as when you go back to that spot later on in the game, you don't have the heavy storm weather effects.

If my game didn't crash within 5 minutes, I would go back to re-take the screenshot but alas, this is all I have:

That is with everything on max except:

dsNzGTN.png
purehair - "on"
AA - SMAA (FXAA only gives me a few more FPS)
all blur crap off
textures - high
shadows - high
DOF - off

2560x1080 21.9

And vsync is off too.

With everything on low/off, my FPS only jumps to 55FPS.....

@1080p then you might be right you hit 60fps but I doubt it remains locked 60fps.
The game is just too demanding in parts.

I am sorry if you cannot enjoy the game because you have your eye stuck looking at the FPS counter.

I changed some settings did some testing and when I was happy with it in the Soviet Installation, which seemed to be the most resource hungry area so far. I left it and went back to enjoying the game.

If it ever dips into the 50s from time to time, I haven't noticed because it's not stuttering anymore and plays incredibly smooth :|

You will need to upload a save if you want me to take a screenshot with the exact conditions that it must be the storm section for that area.

Obviously my resolution is lower (1920x1080)
SMAA
AF X8
Purehair on
Blur off
DoF off
Textures High
Shadows High
V-sync on (Triple buffered)

I enjoyed the game lot 79% complete 20 hours. Just like yourself I did testing of performance. I do run 1440p and in my experience from 1440p to 1080p is around 10fps and even still in the soviet and the village parts 60fps locked just wasn't happening least on high/max settings.

Unfortunately I have passed that area and now onto the geo. part, which actually has just as bad performance so I can take a screenshot of that area, iirc, it is only a bit windy in the area.

If the crashing has stopped, I will go back to the sawmill area to take a screenshot.

Uh the new patch has broken invert options on my gamepad.....they no longer work :(

Not to worry they also added a beta game option (It rolls back to patch one) so just revert to that if you can't have it how you want it with patch two installed.

Post a couple of screenshots of areas I can fast travel too :)

As for the main story, I have slowed down/stopped going any further since:

Explore the valley

When Jacob's sister was going to kill you but he steps in. I have saved my game there and went back to the Soviet Installation to do some collectibles. I also went back and finished the baba yaya DLC.

Will do, should hopefully get some up in a hour or 2.

You are at the exact same spot as me :D I would have been much further in if it weren't for the crashes though :D

Well *touch wood*...... the game didn't crash for me at all there with a 1+ hour session in the Geo. area so hopefully the patch has fixed that for good....

Performance seems more consistent thus smoother "overall", still not great though, at least my CPU usage is considerably higher now, before it was fluctuating quite a bit and barely going above 60/70%!

I am using sweetfx with SMAA so that will take a couple of FPS.

Completed the story for this now, great game I enjoyed it just as much as TR 2013. I had 83% completion, missed one part for the auto shotgun somewhere. I will probably play this again on the hardest difficulty when its all patched up.

Looking forward to see how uncharted 4 compares against this.

Ah you are running quite a few more settings a notch or 2 lower than what you originally stated!!! :p

What about the Geo. area as above in my screenies?

I will go back to the sawmill later and see what my FPS is now, with performance being better for me now, I suspect that I should see a decent enough boost....

With the same settings as per my last post:

So still about the same FPS, although it wasn't fluctuating as much as before.... Just had a crash after 1 hour though.....
