Tomb Raider - Rise of the Raider PC

No, 60fps is buttery smooth :)

Don't know why anyone buys AMD at the moment honestly.

60fps is doable on your settings, when you said other day I run 1080p with texture down to high and AF on 8x I thought you had everything else on max but you dont. AO is set to on and both your shadow setting are on high not very high..

If I want 60fps all i need to do is drop down to 1080p and lower settings nothing to do with AMD or Nvidia when you simpley lowing the quality of the game down.

I run 1440p with almost everything on highest apart from textures on high and AF on 4x with no blur and get 40/50fps my game looks much better.

Edit
Even your level of Detail is on high, set that to very high and get much better render distance

Game looks fantastic and plays great. Seeing as you moan about performance, I don't much see the point about boasting about higher settings if it stops your enjoyment of the game :)

How did it stop me enjoying the game? I completed it with 80% 20 hours fully enjoyed it.. And when did I moan about performance?

My point is you was bigging yourself up bah bah my 970 runs this 60fps locked high textures and AF 8x ignoring the fact you also lowered everything else down lol
My point still stands you won't get 60fps locked on the best settings.

Sure your game still looks great tomb raider settings are very well balanced but it still don't look better than very high settings mainly shadows and level of detail you missing a lot out being rendered at distance.

Rofl, please, please quote me saying I kept anything else on max? I specifically said I lowered from very high to high, AF X8, SMAA and 1080p which is exactly what I showed and is recommended due to the VRAM requirements of very high settings.

You made it sound like everything else was maxed and all you lowered was textures and AF
Lots of us on 970s had the game pumped up to very high until we hit that area and then lowered the textures to high and it was pretty much 60fps solid after that.

You didn't say you also lowered other settings :p

O_o I posted my gfx settings in the thread once I had a copy of the game. Which to begin with was running on very high textures and max AF.

Game was running pretty decent but soon as I got to the Soviet Installation I could see the frames dropping and the game was a little stuttery.

Did some reading on both Steam forums/Reddit and saw similar posts regarding the VRAM usage between High and Very High textures.

Lowered textures to High and AF to x8 and the game has been running fantastic. I haven't had a single crash so far.

Oh this is 1080p by the way.

You read into that for whatever reason but I lowered from max to high after hitting soviet installation. Not trying to fool anyone, hence posting the Gfx settings screenshot.

I will raise level of detail to max later tonight and see if the game will hold at 60fps. No point raising it if the game then stutters along. Can experiment with AFx4 if you think it makes little difference from 8x.

Shadows both very high also and level of detail these both make massive difference to image quality.

I run AFx4 because 1440p is much more demanding so I need to take away something that makes little to IQ. For some reason Tomb Raider @1440p AF from 2x to 16x is a hit of around 30-20fps 4x to 8x was around 5fps

With all this my game runs around 40fps 50/60 in closed places also very smooth all the time not sure if freesync is helping here though.

Honestly, even with those settings of yours, I don't even know how you get a constant 60fps in open areas when you have threads like this (majority are users with 980ti's):

Either something is very broke on the game code end and there are compatibility issues with certain hardware or you are just one luck soab :p

What is cpu usage like for people? Mine is awful, it is all over the place, in one area it could be 80+% and others areas, the following:

I have spent the last hour going through various settings and no matter what I do...... I can't get a constant 60fps.......

Had some dips in the geo thermal area, goes down to 50ish if it's raining and there is multiple NPCs, or if like 8 chickens all spawn lol. Saying that it only drops for maybe 3 seconds in the largest open area.

Tried level of detail max, shadows max that was a mix of 60/50/44 and 40. Graphic wise, could see more smoke detail next to fires but I hated having to lower AF.

I think my settings are the sweet spot on my system for GFX mixed with performance.

Just started my second play though and I can't say that I had any performance dips anywhere, but then I have it set mostly to high, not very high and I am not a FPS nazi
as long as its smooth its ok with me. This is on a GTX980 and i7 4790k [stock] with 16gb ram

Also, does anyone else notice the shadows issue or whatever it is.... like the following, look at the mountain, I didn't move, all I did was turn the camera and this big black shadow just comes from the top of the mountain all the way down, almost as if there was an alien space ship from independence day coming :p

That is with max shadows etc.

I should note that the "specular reflection quality" setting that was introduced in the first patch makes quite a big difference on image quality. By default it is set to normal, but setting to very high makes distant textures and objects look less aliased and more defined. Costs a few fps but was worth it for me.

I played through the whole game at 1440p, max settings, with the only exception being AA set to FXAA. At these settings I got 40 to 70fps with v-sync turned off. However, I found the tearing annoying so played through with v-sync turned on and also triple buffering, which was surprisingly playable. I would say 50% of the time I got locked 60fps, and the rest of the time it was around 50fps. The typical vsync judder you get when fps is below the refresh rate was present, but was less noticeable than it is in other games.

It was by no means ideal, definitely not "buttery smooth" (:p) but not game breaking either and not enough for me to reduce the image quality settings.

Happens here also, strange but I didnt notice this in my play through lol

Someone posted on Youtube also but didnt list the specs, if you turn off soft sun shadows it will go away.

I have posted on his video to try and find out what GPU he running, can anyone with an Nvidia GPU just test this area please the acropolis Mid camp site

Looking at his other videos, his specs seem to be:

My specs:
Win7
GTX 770 4GB
Core i7 3770K
RAM 16 GB
No OC
Driver v361.75

Will just turn off like soft sun crap then :p Thanks.

And yeah, it was originally just something that I caught at the corner of my eye but now I always notice it and it is very distracting :p

Just finished it at 90%...

Kinda want to go back and get the remaining bits and bobs..

9 out of 10 from me, very well recommended. Never had one bit of bother that some others have had.

Can't wait for the next one, looks like we are heading to

South America, think there might be some influence from the Vatican as well.

Game is still crashing for me, not as much as before the last patch but still.... :( Starting to think it might be something related to the auto saves as it always seems to happen when that happens....

I should really wait for more patches to fix this game (at least on my end) but I cba as there are too many games coming out soon so this probably won't get touched for a good few months especially with the division open beta next weekend and full release on 8th March

Just finished on 86%, will probably go back and 100% too.

9/10 for me, only negative point being slightly to easy. Massive improvement over the 1st game in regards to optional Tombs.

Loved the end game credits, gave that same feeling you get after watching a rare good James Bond :D

Bring on the 3rd game!

Runs really well for me. Got everything set to max and hovering at 60FPS or just below the whole time.

I just notice that it's very thirsty when it comes to RAM usage. Nearly using 6GB of RAM
