Tomb Raider - Rise of the Raider PC

Well for my rig anyway :p and quite a few others had problems with performance on much better systems going by steam etc. The game certainly looks great but IMO, it is awfully optimised when you compare it to the likes of assassins creed syndicate & the division, they run far better with more or less max settings and are way more open, not to mention battlefront (although it is a very linear basic game but then again this isn't much more complex)

In most areas i.e. the very linear parts, tombs it runs great, it's just the open areas like soviet and especially geo area that are crap. My CPU usage was so low for most of the game, struggling to go above 50% (most other games, it is 80+%), my GPU usage was constantly 99%

It didn't matter what settings I used, in the soviet and geo area even with everything on low/off I could barely get above 60FPS and the game was awful looking with those settings.

Running at 3440x1440 on my 980Ti
All maxed apart from 2AA and I have turned off motion blur, DOF and film grain because I hate them, they make the game look worse.

Runs smooth as silk and looks awesome!!

Another patch has been added through Steam.

[02-19-2016] PC Patch notes for patch 1.0.623.2 (Patch #3)

We have just released the third PC patch for Rise of the Tomb Raider, build 1.0.623.2. This is a somewhat smaller patch fixing some issues that have been reported by our players. We expect some larger updates for the next patch!

This patch will be applied by Steam automatically when you next start the game. If your game does not update, please restart the Steam client. If you are using the game on the Window Store, we are still working to get the previous update with you as soon as possible, and to have this one follow soon after. We will update this thread when the Windows Store patches are live.
Added new option to disable the camera automatically centering behind the player when strafing.
Fixed problems where animals may not appear on a 2nd play-through of the game.
Fixed a problem where occasionally the door to the Voice of God tomb is closed and cannot be opened.
Fixed a problem causing the game to not start on machines with 32 or more hardware threads.
Fixed some foliage flickering when Dynamic Foliage is set to High while the game is running 30fps or lower.
Fixed artifacts when SSAO/HBAO+ was enabled in combination with SSAA.
A variety of other smaller optimizations, bug-fixes, and tweaks.
While we expect this patch to be an improvement for everyone, if you do have trouble with this patch and prefer to stay on the old version we made a Beta available on Steam, Build 615.5, that can be used to switch back to the previous version.

We will keep monitoring for feedback and will release further patches as it seems required. We always welcome your feedback!

EDIT:

Having read it I see that windows store users are still waiting for patch 2 while we have patch 3, And people wonder why some of us don't want yet another service provider forced on us. If they can't even organise that side of things properly and won't allow us access to the files to use workarounds while we wait it's no surprise that some people won't have any faith at there Windows live reboot. Maybe they should have let Crystal Dynamics create it :D

Somewhat enjoying the game, however the performance is not great.

I'm running 980GTX SLI and usually play at 1440p with 75hz and this painful to play at times.

Drops down to 50fps in places are noticeable and very distracting, kind of ruins what should be a great experience as the visuals at times are stunning.

Lowering settings doesn't seem to have much impact in the open areas, seems unoptimized. :(

What texture quality are you using? I find the second to top works best especially at 3440x1440

Does this get more demanding later on? I'm only 15% or so in but very smooth so far.

I found very high textures a no go on 4gb even at 1080p so they're out, but everything else is pretty good and runs well.
