Hey people,

Just wanted your opinion on this, I post on a few forums which are populated by what seems to be mainly middle aged house wifes and everything i post unless it looks like it is being addressed to the queen with various pleases, thank yous and other compliments to the original posters I get accused of being harsh or sharp, it's not something i've noticed on here or other forums of similar ages and I put it down to the type of people on these forums.

Is this a common thing or have I just found the internets hide out for bored middle aged housewifes?

Hello, how are you? I hope you are well.

I cannot say that I have noticed anything out of the ordinary.

Thank you for your question! I look forward to replying again soon.

I think it's down to the demographic - you've probably just found a place with older, newer internet users?

At OcUK, 99% of people (I'm guessing) are seasoned internet users and comfortable with forum/email etiquette as being different from face-to-face or formal written communication? For example, if you started banding about internet memes on the other site, I'm guessing no one would know wtf you're talking about.

I've occasionally been accused of similar things elsewhere for answering with just factual information rather than wrapping it up in niceties. It's more difficult to write brief answers that people see as friendly when all you have to replace the visual cues you get when talking to them in person are a few smileys. However, a straightforward, direct answer is, even if it doesn't seem all that friendly, better than the usual internet fare, and if people actually take umbrage then I think it's probably their problem rather than yours.

Thanks for the replys, i'll post the conversation as it stands in a minute, just waiting to see if i get another reply or not.

Yeh I find this on MSE a lot. To be honest women and housewives posting drivel mainly. Occasionally you get the odd bloke on there talking money sense but it is hard to pick out in amoungst the pap that the rest of them post.

I read their "Tech" forum for the lolz most of the time.
