Took a Bus the other day for first time in about 20 years

To be fair, I don't feel it's far to say Easy is being snobbish.

Unless you have had the pleasure of old people sitting next to you (who then proceed to urinate on the chain), children be sick on the floor, crazy old people get on the bus "Tackle out" - then stand in full view of the entire bus for 45mins, chav's who wave knifes around, punch people, scream/shout/attack the driver, morons with mobile phones listing to rap/R&B, the stink of BO & urine, ticket dodgers wasting everybodys time, wierdos who try to speak to you, really really really fat people who sit on the seat next to you (but end up with there fat flabs squashing your leg - after about 30 seconds you start to go blue because they have stopped the blood flowing to your head.

Yeah, public transport is great!

Soon wears off :p

Yeah I guess doing it 5 days a week would suck

Here my usual commute

Have you tried, you know, telling them to get off you?

The rule about sitting next to people on the bus is that you do not talk to anyone on the bus about sitting next to them on the bus.

I have a rule too, it's 'Don't let fatties sit on you on the bus' :p

Seriously, a polite 'Excuse me, would you mind not crushing me up against the window please' works every time.

OP where do you live ( or where did you get the bus?).

Personally I don't mind buses. Living in central London I travel exclusively by public transport and don't own a car. I slightly prefer them to the tube, as it feels less dirty, and you get a phone signal! They also drop me slightly closer to my front door. Also the view travelling around London can be very nice, and gives you a greater sense of where you are.

I took a bus yesterday for the first time in a while too. I'd normally walk into town and back, each leg taking about 20-25 minutes. However, I walked into town yesterday and would have walked back again, but it started lashing it down while I was in the supermarket, so I decided to get the bus home. It wasn't too full, clean, punctual and frequent. The only beef I had was that it cost £2 for a five minute trip! Last time I used the bus for this same trip it cost me 60p.

However,I've just picked up my new car so I doubt I'll be using it again in a while.

I took a bus about 10 years ago from Clapham to St Thomas' Hospital. When I sat down, I found a carton of eggs on the seat so when I went to get off I asked the driver what I should do with them to which he told me I could stick them up a certain lightless orifice. Never took a bus in London again after that.

Are eggs generally provided as a freebie on London transport?

The bus prices in manchester are insane

A 20 minute walk, and lesse than 5 minutes on the bus costs me £1.90 or £3.70 for a return hence why i walk. its also always full to the brim, supposedly every 10 minutes but many times i've waited 20-25 minutes to have 3 following each other arrive <.<

What routes are you taking? I get the bus into the city centre occasionally and it costs £1.50 for a 40min journey on a Magic Bus.

All of the things in this thread are what irritate me about my job!

1. I hate asking for the fare £6.45 return Bath to Bristol! Makes me feel sick, its only 8miles!!
2. Smelly people! Enough said!
3. Rude/abusive/obnoxious people that just make you want to smack them in the face!
4. Chavs! Playing music and shouting at each other.
5. Old people. See 2 and 3.
6. People that don't even acknowledge I'm there even after asking for there money and driving them as smoothly as possible to there destination.

I can go on and on, In general my rule is be nice to me an i will be nice back (please, thank you and maybe a smile)

The only bus I ever use, is the 26 in Reading. The driver is always friendly, it is cheap, the seats are comfy and it is air conditioned. Oh, and it also has free wi-fi. Pretty damn awesome considering it costs peanuts to use.

I was about to wade in and set you straight, but it seems since the last time I used the bus the prices have been re-jigged ! (Apparently a weekly habbit of Reading Buses)

Still doesnt change the fact I am bitter about living just under a mile and a half out of town and still having to use 3 buses to get there... so car it is !

I share your pain.. Busses make my skin crawl.

I've been cycling to the station for over 10 years now just to avoid them. it's warmer (even in the winter months), quicker, reliable and far cheaper which is the least of my concerns.

I'm not sure how long I can keep doing this becuause my knees are borked so I've been looking a motor bike as a replacement. Not for the knees of course.. that would be daft but anything to avoid the bus.

I tend to avoid the bus, I much prefer taking the train for various reasons. The trains run on time and you have a decent idea of when they are going to show up. They are more spacious, they are more comfortable and they are faster.
Buses, whilst cheaper (90p to get anywhere in Glasgow really), don't even try and run to the timetable, are generally dirty and cold. You tend to get more weridos and vocal scumbags on them (on a train you can move carriage) and are slower.

I'll get the bus now and then (generally so I don't have to walk up a massive hill if going to university) but 9 times out of 10 I get the train. It's handy having a station one minute from my house as well.
