Took a Bus the other day for first time in about 20 years

Go by bike next time, and thank yourself that it's not the Croydon Tramlink...

Plublic transport in the UK is of poor quality and the most expensive in Europe- always comes as a nasty shock coming in from Hamburg where I always use public transport.

Try getting the bus between 8am and 9am between Rotherham bus station and Meadowhall on a week day. It drops school kids and college kids off, plus it goes past the hospital. So you get scummy kids all having a competition to see whose ***tty, tinny music is the loudest on their phones, whilst pushing each other around and squawking about some inane carp AND you also get ill people going in for their rabies/TB/whatever treatment at the vets, sorry I mean hospital. Also, most people in Rotherham seem to be fat, sweaty and toothless.

I don't do this journey anymore. Thank God.

On another note, should I be expected to ever give up my seat to a fat; wheezing lump of lard?

The noise...The slowness of it....Stopping at every stop...The Kids swearing...The smell...The seats...The lack of control in my own destiny.

Worrying about some smelly person sitting next to me as I slowly watched the bus getting fuller and fuller.

I didnt have my headphones with me and couldnt get 3G on my S2 it was a living hell:eek:

Our buses are ok depending on the time of day. Where did you catch this bundle of joy on four wheels?

I know exactly what you mean, I live in Dronfield and work near Meadowhall, there are no buses out of Dronfield before 7am, so because I start work at 6am I have to drive lol

First time in about 20 years.

My lord it was a horrible experience...Don't know how people cope with doing such a horrible thing every day of their lives.

It was a nightmare from start to finish.

Yeah its depressing, but then again as is the train. Expensive / full, no seats etc..

Better that you give up your seat, than it collapse and block the aisle, trapping everyone on board? Either that or the bus has to brake suddenly, then we'd see the boulder scene from Indiana Jones reenacted.

Thankfully I can cycle to work each day during spring -> autumn (27 mile round trip) and if I leave at 7:20 I can get to work at 7;45 without having to slow down below 40 (I start work at 8 but if I live even a few mins late I get stuck in traffic).

P.S I don't remember the last time I used public transport.

I'd have no problem with buses if 1) they didn't cost more than a taxi and 2) the people who ride them washed every day.

these are the main reasons i never use buses, + i have a pushbike, don't care for the weather usually, turning up somewhere wet is always better than turning up somewhere smelling like a used cesspit :d

I wouldn't use a bus unless desperate... it costs me an extra 20 quid a week to drive rather than use a train, never mind busses.

I would rather (and do) drive and pay more.

Meh, I guess our bus is okay...

Mornings can be a bit annoying sometimes when there are a lot of people (public bus) but in the afternoon it is just a school bus and we have the bottom deck to ourselves because everyone crushes in upstairs :D

I took a bus for the first time in ages this weekend as I had to collect a car from town and obviously cannot drive two at once.

Once at the bus stop I waited for about 5 minutes and a bus arrived. I got on, paid the reasonably polite driver and took one of the many vacant seats. The bus then drove to town, taking about 5 minutes longer than I'd take in the car. Once in town, I got up, thanked the driver and got off.

The only part of the whole experience that was irritating was that it cost about the same as I'd have spent in petrol.

I also use trains fairly often and 80% of the time they are absolutely fine. Rush hour is never fun but then its hardly great in the car either.

Oh wait, hang on, this is GD.

LOLOLOLOLOL I WENT ON THE BUS IT WAS FULL OF POOR PEOPLE WHO CANT AFFORD A BMW LIKE ME, IT WAS SO GREAT THINKING ABOUT HOW MUCH BETTER I WAS THAN THEM! LOLOLOLOLOL HOWEVER THE ENTIRE EXPERIENCE WAS WORSE THAN TORTURE AND PEOPLE ON BENEFITS WERE VOMITING!!! OMG btw here is lots of pictures of my shiney car.

There, thats better.

You cycle an average of 32mph!? (13.5/(25/60))

You should enter TdF!

It'll only work if the pictures are of your car sat infront of a cornfield at dusk, use a pro camera too it adds to the effect.

Where did you get the bus? Try getting it in a busy city full of drunken chavs. Most of them are harmless, to be fair. But it isn't always that pretty.

The train isn't always that nice either, standing up for hours. If you have bags with you too it gets even worse.

On the other hand, when the train is empty, or you have a row to yourself its magic and I would choose it over driving most of the time.

Oops, that should have read "And if I leave in my CAR at 7:20...". On the bike I leave at 7:05 am and get to work at 7:50am.
