Reminds me of Have I Got News For You.

'Including one or more from this weeks guest publication... Buses'

:D
I thought for a long time that they were made up for comic effect, until I actually went and looked one up after an episode

I'm fortunate in that although I commute to London and use buses to get home/to the local rail station, I only have to endure either other commuters and don't tend to have to mingle with degenerates. Occasionally you get the odd annoying thing like this bus driver I filmed a couple of months ago:

20minutes of Just One Cornetto and other 'classics'. Most of the time I avoid the bus if I can and ride my bike into town as it's full of either the walking dead, little ****** or worst of all, school kids.

Use it on saturday nigths after a night out or going into town for a beer, £2 for a journey, cycle or drive me car if I need to go anywhere when not drinking.

I love hearing people moan about busses. i'm a bus driver around stoke/newcastle always smiling, say please and thank you, never run early, very rarely run late and if i do there is a genuine reason like traffic etc. even rarer do i miss runs out unless there is a defect or problem with my bus as ALL lost mileage is recorded and submitted to the ministry of transport which could lead to the operator losing that route and fines.
I know about 70% of the smelly people in my area and wont let them travel on my bus, tell kids/youths turn their rubbish music off. let people sit down before i pull off. in summary i do my job well.

bus fares may seem high but when you factor in costs in running busses its actually quite cheap. team of mechanics needed to keep a fleet running and parts that need replacing (mainly windows that kids like smashing which are not cheap), office staff that organises everything, drivers wages, operators license for each bus, road tax for each bus, fuel and probably the biggest cost is insurance. your fares do not include the costs of disabled/elderly passes which the government pays a smaller % of the actual fare.

the previous comment in this thread that made me laugh the most is having to stand on a rush hour bus.

wages i get paid enough to smile but not enough to get rich. there used to be a lad that worked at OC HQ that got on my bus now and again when they were up fenton not seen him for a while though probably got sacked for being late due to busses lol

I've got to be honest, the last time I used public transport was a pretty horrific experience as well.

2007, replacement bus service because they decided to shut the tube for some non essential maintenance on the weekend we went to see Muse at wembley.

I was never bothered going on a bus as you can sit back and relax. What bothered me was the fact I could walk into my garage and get into my car. With a bus you have to walk to the stop and wait for it to come. For a lazy man like myself I couldn't hack it.

I have to agree with the OP, I moved house and I had a bus stop at the end of my road so I decided to take the bus for the 1.5 mile into work. It was slow, dirty, bumpy and the people were the worst after a week I was back in the car which was cheaper.

I am one of the old persons with a free bus pass which I have had for over two years.
In that time I have used the bus about 3 times, mostly because of the reasons already mentioned.
Despite the fact I can travel on buses and trains for free, give me my car every time.
Using buses and trains in the West Midlands is not a pleasant experience.
Hehe, I grew up in Rowley Regis (not far from you).

I 100% agree with the last statement.

I took a bus for the first time in ages this weekend as I had to collect a car from town and obviously cannot drive two at once.

Once at the bus stop I waited for about 5 minutes and a bus arrived. I got on, paid the reasonably polite driver and took one of the many vacant seats. The bus then drove to town, taking about 5 minutes longer than I'd take in the car. Once in town, I got up, thanked the driver and got off.

The only part of the whole experience that was irritating was that it cost about the same as I'd have spent in petrol.

I also use trains fairly often and 80% of the time they are absolutely fine. Rush hour is never fun but then its hardly great in the car either.

.

I commute during the week using public transport and my experiences with are more along the lines of what [TW]Fox says above rather than all these stories of chavs etc ...

Public transport in Nottingham generally seems pretty reasonable and whilst the changes in bus/tram tickets have been a bit of a pain the new kangaroo tickets should save me quite a bit in the long term.

I guess it entirely depends on where you're using the bus as well. Since moving last year I've had to take the bus for work from my village into town. It's £11 for a 7 day pass to ride any bus in the city (massive saving on buying daily), they come every 20 minutes, and I don't have to pay the permit fee to park at work. It would be nice if they ran later but on the whole I'm pleased with the service.

Hope this won't be deleted for being off-topic.

Public transport isn't too bad, how ever when they are late then it is rather annoying and trains + bus's are ridiculously expensive now which isn't very good either!
