right the rules are simple.

you can only pick from current players therefore you cannot have pele or best in your team.

you need to pick a top 11 with 7 subs, the team should be one that theoretically works well together. so therefore you cannot have all attacking players, etc.

i'll go first but will probably change after thinking more about it

messi - ronaldo

gourcuff - xavi - iniesta

mascherano

evra - vidic - lucio - alves

cesar

bench - rooney, balotelli, tevez, maicon, fabiano, lloris, essien

i have picked a fairly young squad, balotelli isnt proven but every time i have seen him play he has been immense, especially when he comes on as a sub. i have picked my bench as players who could come on and completely change a game if needed to. i know i havent put rooney in the starting 11, he has had a very good season, but messi's has been better and ronaldo would be an ideal partner due to his height. tevez and messi would link up well (both play for argentina). rooney and ronaldo would link up well. fabiano could fit into any team. essien can play any position in his own half apart from goal.

every player in the team is linked to at least 2/3 other members in the team, be it by league, country, club or old team mates.

updated team:

Messi ------- Drogba

Iniesta ------ Xavi---- Ronaldo

-----Mascherano------

Evra ---- Lucio ---- Pique ----- Maicon

------- Reina -----------

Subs : Tevez, Vidic, Alves, Essien, Carvahlo , Fabiano, Cesar

Lucios been immense this season.

That team still wouldn't beat Manchester United circa '94 though.

Genuinely this is exactly what I would go for. Except possibly Busquets out for someone like Ribery

Interesting that chelsea are top of the premier league yet hardly any of the players if any have been mentioned yet.

i was thinking of picking malouda but he needs another few games at the level he has been playing at recently. other than that they have drogba who is an immense player but sometimes his attitude can be detrimental. they have a good balance in their team. thats why they are top. not because they have the best players.

That's because Cole & Drogba apart none of their players have been that good, and because of his injury Cole has kinda gone out of sight out of mind and Drogba just isn't as good as Rooney or Torres :p

Touch odd you'd talk about attitude and include Balotelli, who like tonight is a lazy twit who was also quite terrible.

Ignoring penalties, Drogba's outscored and out assisted Rooney, with a few less minutes on the pitch, Torres is marginally ahead on minutes/goals than Drogba but with a lot less assists. Drogba's done more in more big games than the other two by quite a distance this season. Its actually hard to keep track but it would seem Torres has scored against Utd and Villa, 2 a piece, Rooney's scored a decent amount, Arsenal, spurs, City, Fulham and Liverpool, Drogba's scored an crapload against Arsenal, Villa, Spurs, Utd, Everton and also got a bunch of assists against the top half teams.

Though I'd mostly agree with your first eleven, except Evra, who has had some really really bad games recently in crucial games aswell, Cashley in for him, though I dispise the little ratbag when he's fit, he's absolutely an awesome left back.

Anyone who picked Alves is mad, he's a constantly diving, utter utter cheat whose constantly out of position defensively and constantly overhitting crosses offensively.

he only played for a few minutes, if you saw him play at the weekend as soon as he came on he hit the cross bar from an amazing free kick. he is only 19 yet playing for 1 of the top 5 teams in the world. he is used as a super sub and is very creative down the wing, he has had a hard time recently which could have affected his play tonight for the 15 mins he was on.

as for your comment on alves, he was robbed of a penalty tonight. he was out of position once when the goal came in and his crosses were fine.

DM, made sense.

He was saying that Drogba and Torres have been better and done more with their time on the pitch compared to Rooney. Valid point.

He's saying he'd take Cole over Evra, but wouldn't change much else?

Actually read what DM types, occasionally he makes sense ;)
