Well, this poll is doing the rounds on various syndicated news sites today. The poll seems to come from Sportingfix.com.

1 Roy Keane; 2 Ron 'Chopper' Harris; 3 Vinnie Jones; 4 Dave Mackay; 5 Dennis Wise; 6 Stuart Pearce; 7 David Batty; 8 John Terry; 9 Graeme Souness; 10 Patrick Vieira; 11 Lee Bowyer; 12 Julian Dicks; 13 Billy Bremner; 14 Kevin Muscat; 15 Eric Cantona; 16 Norman Hunter; 17 Neil Ruddock; 18 Tommy Smith; 19 Nobby Stiles; 20 Alan Shearer.

Dennis Wise ahead of Stuart Pearce and Souness?

Kevin Muscat even being in the top 20?

I agree with some of those in the list (Keane, Pearce, Souness, Viera, Smith) but the others don't seem 'Hardmen' to me, they just have a rep based on one or two horrific tackles or are popular players!

Dennis Wise was a snivelling little **** who would usually crawl back under his rock if he came up against anyone who could take it as well as give it out.

Annoying little bog eyed nuisance, yes. Football hardman, not on your life

Terry hardman?

Wise hardman?

Nobby should be higher and Muscat was a ****ing demon sometimes, used to go through wingers at every oppotunity.

Lee Bowyer? I thought this was football hardmen not night club thugs?
Eric Cantona? For what kicking a fan, makes him a petulant tit not a football hardman.
Alan Shearer? The only thing hard about him was the point of the elbow he used on defenders petty thugary does not a football hardman make.

Ask Vinnie Jones how hard Cantona was.

Selhurst park I think it was, Wimbledon doing there usual bully boy tactics and Jones goes in hard on Cantona in the opening 10 minutes.

Cantona gets up shrugs it off and about 20 minutes later goes though Vinnie Jones, took old Vinnie a lot longer to get up and he didn't go looking for Cantona again :D

Viera? I never saw him as a hardman. The game where Keane got stuck into him in the tunnel and then he totally bottled the game, showed how hard he was.

Suprised to not see Duncan Ferguson on there.

Yeah I'd have Big Dunc in there. Never shirked a challenge and physically dominated a lot of big centre halves

Viera? I never saw him as a hardman. The game where Keane got stuck into him in the tunnel and then he totally bottled the game, showed how hard he was.

Good Youtube video of that. Utd won 4-1 with O'Shea scoring

Which ****s are responsible for this poll??

1 Roy Keane. No. Just a thug.
2 Ron 'Chopper' Harris
3 Vinnie Jones
4 Dave Mackay
5 Dennis Wise Little bug-eyed ****, not hard in the least
6 Stuart Pearce
7 David Batty
8 John Terry
9 Graeme Souness
10 Patrick Vieira
11 Lee Bowyer WTF?
12 Julian Dicks
13 Billy Bremner
14 Kevin Muscat
15 Eric Cantona WTF?
16 Norman Hunter
17 Neil Ruddock
18 Tommy Smith
19 Nobby Stiles
20 Alan Shearer. WTF?

Hunter should be top of that list, but where is Joe Jordan? Reaney? Charlton? Johnny Giles? Where is Duncan Ferguson? Santamaria? Trautmann? Butcher? Batista?

It's a PA newsfeed, on loads of regional news sites so us Scousers are not guilty for a change.

Joking aside, if you are struggling with any of the big words on it give me a shout and I can help you :p

I suppose it depends on what your definition is of a hard man. I notice Gilly says that Keano isn't yet Batty is

I'd class them as one of the same. Albeit Batty the inferior footballer in every department :p Neither would shirk a challenge and if they got hit hard they would hit back hard regardless of the reputation of the player.

Happy to be stood corrected but I have never seen Keano go hiding in a match or against an player.
