Top 20 All Time Football Hardmen

Terry Butcher could pretty much hold is own against any in that list and for that matter Gary Pallister. Those sort of players are the real hardmen imo.

Who came up with this then? Dennis Wise in the top 5 hardmen of all time, yet Duncan Disorderly can't make it into the top 20?

Vieira isn't overly hard, he's just big and very good at ball winning.

Dennis Bergkamp was harder than a couple of those on this list (people never really appreciated this... if you watch how he developed his game to shield the ball, how he used his arms etc). Take that goal everyone seems to love against Newcastle for example, it's not just the flick that makes the goal, it's the strong arm to keep Dabizas at bay as well.

Big Dunc keeps pigeons. By that alone he doesn't make the list.

To ape Nokkon's point about Wes Brown above, Ferguson was that hard and kept pigeons, he was/is a double hard *******. And he's the only footballer to have been jailed for assault regarding something that happened on the pitch albeit off the ball.

Dave Mackay :p

For a hardman, Bremner doesn't look like he's going to fare too well in that encounter, Mackay definitely deserves his place on the list and should possibly be higher.

As mentioned, Keane was scared to hit Shearer despite having the oppurtunity.

What makes you think of him as a hardman? Going into two footed tackles etc.?

If so, then Joey Barton is as well then?

I thought Keane swung for him ?

Shearer pushing him back didn't he ?

Barton, idiot, not a hard man as such. Putting a cigarette in to a young lads eye, doesn't make you hard.
